A person of worth personifies the characteristics of having adequate or great merit, character, or value. Desmond Doss incorporates all the attributes listed above and suitably embodies the college statement “ be a pebble of excellence, create a ripple of change.” Private Doss has embodied the college vision statement as he, unlike all his comrades is unwittingly different, choosing to save lives instead of taking. Desmond Doss reflects the college statement because as unlike the other medics and soldier Doss refused to carry any form of weapon, believing that, no matter what situation he would be positioned in, he would not take the life of another human being. Doss’s heroism is now remembered in another form: for the number of lives he had saved and how he created change in his field- as the first conscientious objector to go into battle without any weapon and due to his actions winning the Medal of Honour.
