Some ways for feedback to be effective are make it positive, direct, precise and intentional(Conroy, Sutherland, Snyder, Al-Hendwi, Vo, A,2009 pg21) . The teacher did this by going over mistakes with the students. for example, when a student struggled with a homework assignment she would pull them aside and work through the problem with them. She would smile and ask questions so the student would fix their mistakes without feeling attacked. In the study that was done on facial expression used in the classroom most of the teacher stated that they would use happy and smiling when manage the class They also stated that when the class is acting up they will use grumpy or sour as classroom management. The data showed that most teachers would not use furious. the reason for this that the student would not respond correctly as most students find that facial expression objectionable.(Toprak, and Savas,2013 pg224-225). My field placement teacher used this a lot in her classroom. By using facial expression she did not have to call out the student in front of the class and embarrass them. Embarrassing them would create an atmosphere of fear rather than safe and open. She was also able to maintain the environment by using her facial expression. When she smiled the students asked more question and engaged more freely in the activity at hand. When her facial expression was more sour or grumpy the class did not participate as much.
