In “Desiree’s Baby” by Kate Chopin, the character Desiree--who is carrying her child--purposely walks into the swamp and never returns. Therefore, readers infer that they both die. Although she believed she was saving the baby’s life, Desiree’s decision to walk into the swamp carrying her child is wrong because she had other options for herself and she ended an innocent child’s life.
