Tension in society has been created for many reasons. Each time tension is created by an specific event that society might overwhelmingly for or against. In the short story “ desiree's baby” by “kate chopin”. The author uses setting to give tension and keeps the reader entertained in the 1974 century. The short story takes place in louisiana before the american civil war. “This is saying what they would do late in the day near the plantation working hard. A plantation is a large piece of land (or water) usually in a tropical or semitropical area where one crap is specifically planted for widespread commercial sale and usually tended by resident laborers or slaves. Hard working slaves are the people who were mostly the ones working in the plantations. If they didn’t do the work they were usually punished by their owners. Armond had fallen in love with her. That was the reason he fell in love with her” as if struck by a pistol shot” is the way he described it. He married her because she was beautiful, gentle, affectionate and sincere. Armond is portrayed as the man who had it all. The fact that he was a slave owner and came from a family whose name was well known helped boost his ego of feeling like a king besides owning slaves. Armond’s pride always came first before his family because he felt like he had to protect the family name and history art any cost. Race was a second major issue for Armond. He figured out his past and knew who he actually was resulting in him blaming Desiree for the reason why their baby was mixed. Also because of the fact that Desiree was an adopted child and did not know what her ethnicity was. Armond felt like her race, which he assumed was black, changed everything. Desiree was happy when she had her baby and Armond was just as happy. In result he was nicer to her and the slaves than ever before but suddenly changed when he saw the child growing up to be mixed. His whole attitude towards the child changed. He thought the baby had nothing to do with love between him and Desiree but only pride and prejudice. These situations happen because people are not careful when they decide to blame others unjustly without correct information. All this leads to racism because of a man’s selfishness and showing how blood
