Dancing has been an interest of mine since i was five years old and began taking dance classes. Although I knew everything about learning and performing I had little knowledge about the choreographing process. I decided to learn these steps for my project to be able to construct my own dance in two years when I have my senior solo, as all seniors do at my studio. At the end of last year my dance teacher said if a fellow dancer and I wanted to choreograph our own dance for recital next year, she would definitely support us if we chose to. In order to make this happen I had to learn the effort and elements that go into choreography. To ensure that I achieved the goal for my project, learning how to choreograph a dance and then apply it to my own dance, I had to learn more about the process of choreography as well; I took advantage of the choreographing experts I know, as well as the internet, in order to do this. Although the choreographing process was …show more content…
When searching online I found one article that was very helpful and utilized as much information from that piece as I could. I learned important notes about dances in general. The essentialness of using the whole stage, feeling emotions and the music, telling a story, and developing contrast in the choreography were all very helpful tips (Powers). I also was able to refine my notes using information from the piece. After reading the article I began highlighting keywords and movements, using abbreviations, and videotaping parts to save time and show exact movements (Powers). From my dance teachers I learned personal aspects of choreography. I learned about the music decision process for future reference, and also where to find inspiration when I am lacking ideas. Following receiving all of this instruction I found that choreographing was much

In these classes you had to be able to take the teachers criticism and use it to get better at the dance. Every time she would criticize me I would go home and work at that one move until I could perfect it. After had done this I would thank her for helping me get better at the thing I could not do. Something happened on my dance team this past summer where I received an award for “Most Improved Dancer”. I was feeling discouraged as well as confused on what I wanted to do involving dance in general. The support from my directors and teammates could not have put a bigger smile on my face. All of the claps, hugs, and high-fives meant so much to me. .I was filled with pure happiness, but had so much uncertainty on whether I wanted to stay committed or remove myself from this group.…

The school auditorium is filled with proud parents and the glow of several hundred screens poised to capture the moment their precious stars take the stage. The music starts and a dozen little girls and boys start twirling and craning their necks to watch their dance instructor coach them from the wings. Most of their parents aren't concerned with the dance training their children are receiving. A friend of a friend told them about "Dolly Dinkle's Dance Academy" and so they signed little Susie up,bought her a pink leotard, and told her to have fun at dance class. However, "Dolly Dinkle" is not a qualified dance instructor.…

Marian Chace, is a well known pioneer of Dance Movement Therapy. As a curious dancer, teacher, and choreographer, Marian questioned why it is that people came to dance classes and were not interested or had no intent in being professional. As this questioned lingered, she progressively changed her classes to aim to individuals needs. She taught and choreographed in her own studio in Washington, D.C, but before that she was part of the Denishawn Company in the 1930’s (Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn). Personal self-harmony was what Marian aimed to help her students learn by integration of the body and movement.…

My ballet vocabulary has great improved and I am well aware of what each move is called. My spelling isn’t perfect, but I am getting there. Before coming to Coker, ballet vocabulary wasn’t as important to me as it is now. My old studio use to come up with our own words so that we could remember the move the way we saw it, so when I got here, I had to relearn everything. However, I knew the basic terms, but not the more complicated ones.…

Simply put, I love dancing. I like moving my hips to the beat, feeling the rhythm inside my body like an electrical surge, enjoying every second of the music. Years have passed since I first started dancing, but I still have the same enthusiasm as if I am performing for the very first time whenever I hear a song that I danced to. Yet, dancing can be exceptionally intimidating and challenging, so much that I question my rationality at times.…

Fear and immaturity were once snags that prevented me from committing to a professional path in the allied health. It plagued and produced gaffes during my undergraduate studies at Stony Brook University which then led me to put the desire on hold. In hindsight, it was the best decision because discovering and developing myself as a person was necessary before achieving any kind of future success. After college, I entered a Master’s program in Statistics/Actuarial Science at Columbia University. It was there that I fortified my strengths in quantitative reasoning and where I credit my aptitude for problem solving.…

You can see the colors of the attire worn by the dancers, the sound of music while the dancers dance, and the love of what they do through their faces, but it is fleeting because dance only happens once. You can never see the same performance twice. It will be different every time, whether it is different dancers on stage or a slight change in the music, but that’s why I like dance because though it is never the same, the emotion you will feel while watching this live art being danced in front of you will forever be the same. The audience should consider itself to be a full member of a dance production because they are what keeps dance performances going.…

There are many styles of dance, and they all require different skill sets. The two styles of dance that I am discussing today are both styles that tell a story on stage over multiple hours, introducing many different characters and having a beginning, middle and end. However, going to see, and training to perform in ballet and musical theater are two very different experiences. Ballet is one of the oldest dance styles and, while it tells a story, there is no speaking, singing or any other words to be said. You portray a story through very complex movements that take a lifetime of practice to get perfectly.…

Adorned with a tutu and pink carousel umbrella, I stood in the wings like a statue waiting for my music to play. I was five years old, my tape was lost in the mix, and I was terrified. That day I walked out onto the stage clenching my umbrella for dear life and completed my first ballet performance without a single hiccup. The show went on. And on for fourteen more years until finally abandoning the barre for academics in pursuit of another field highly focused on the body; medicine.…

From my last year of study, there has not been much that has changed from my perception of ballet. So far, I noticed that I made progress in improving my technique as well as having a clearer focus while learning the combinations in class. I want to improve in whatever way possible to make sure that I can keep on top of my technique, especially since I look forward to striving forward through this semester as a continuation of last semester. On the first day back of the new semester, I already knew that I wanted to break some of the bad habits that I had and wanted to find any way possible to make the goals a primary focus. Even though I have my strengths and weaknesses, I want to further myself this semester to grow as a dancer by breaking some old habits that are holding me back.…

The formation of dance has lived on this world for many generations as we continue to pass through history. When I went to the wonderful performance at Pierce College I experienced a whole new perspective on dancing. The concert had many types of students performing mixed dance projects of all types like solos and duets. There was an average size of one to eight dancers per project which made it the ideal size for the concert. I really enjoyed the creativity and effort put into this performance.…

My First Dance Competition The first time I performed at a dance competition was a very exciting and memorable moment for me. I was six years old and insanely nervous. Typically the nerves hit me while I wait in the wing of the stage for my name to be called, but this time it began the moment I woke up in the morning. I remember having to wake up at about six in the morning in order to have time to get ready and be at the convention center in Wichita when the doors opened at 7:30 a.m.…
