Studio Ghibli, right? Studio Ghibli, to be specific Hayao Miyazaki, one of the founders of Studio Ghibli, has been able to create stories of empathy, stories that explore the humanistic traits of characters, stories that reflect on the essence of creativity and ingenuity. He unconventionally manufactures worlds of formidability, disproportion and places unfortunate, usually younger, individuals and forces them to think about the scary components of reality. An infection that consumes the body causing great pain and grief until it eventually leads to death. You see, in reality, we are plagued by our unwarranted and our dishonorable judgement, whether it be acts of violence or acts of vengeance. When we ingeniously commit acts against our good nature, over time it does sicken us like a disease. What Princess Mononoke was trying to accomplish was tell a complex and fantasized story using problems that we can relate to. And it worked beautifully. I will get into this more later. Princess Mononoke also explores conflicts between man and nature in a society where ecosystems are fighting for dominance and authority, but more specifically the predicament between the humans trying to obtain beneficial resources from the forests for industrialization purposes. I will get into more of that later. Set during the Muromachi period, in an unsympathetic world inhabited by the gods who lived amongst the forests and the demons, who are constantly opposing the regulations made by the gods. The film opens to an unseemingly dark and mysterious forest, occupied by a frightening looking creature. It’s like it has a presence or an immanence of death because it seems to kill every living thing that is around it, even the natural light is affected. We are not really sure of what this things motivation or what it’s
