Designer Babies Persuasive Speech

Decent Essays
Hello Beau, I agree with you it would be great to allow people to live a full life without any pain. However, death is a natural process of life that we cannot avoid. When it comes to designer babies, I also agree with you. I feel that this is too extreme; there is no definitely no reason to control a baby’s genetics. Parents should not be taking away the traits that represent them in the child that should always be a surprised for the parents. I think the form of designer babies takes away the experience of pregnancy and childbirth.

Being able to design your child with specific traits that give them an advantage would then make a big gap between the rich and poor, being that rich can pick the traits out for a “better child”. This could create even more social separation between the rich and the poor than we see today. The last major ethical problem is that we do not know the true side effects that it could have on the kids in the future. Do we really want to be putting kids at risk later on in their life, just so they can have “desirable” traits, like hair or eye color? These ethnical issues are hard to ignore when thinking about gene therapy, and designer…

Embryonic Stem cell research has killed many kids and more to come if we do not stop it. Stem cell research can be done with a stem cell from embryos, fetuses, and adult cells. The National Institutes of Health researched to see which would be easiest to use in laboratories. They found out that embryos would be the easiest because they will stay in a underfered state longer than the other cells will. Which means that they are not classified as any type of cell.…

You may ask “what are designer babies?” Well, designer babies are when the parents of a baby can choose the phenotypes, also known as your traits, such as eye color, height, hair color, and many more. Although having to pick your own baby’s trait would be nice, there are indeed some ethical and moral issues when doing so. One obvious problem is the cost, the practice is not going to be cheap. As a result, not everyone is going to afford this cost which can lead to a society gap, where designer babies will be smarter and better than ordinary babies.…

First, the reason we should publicly fund the embryonic research is because we would be able to have a regulated research to prevent the worst. In a Vanderbilt article “Funding the Future: Embryonic Stem Cell Research” it says “the opportunity to clearly define regulations for ethical research”(Stan/2017/Vanderbilt/“Funding the Future: Embryonic Stem Cell Research”). This quote proves that the research can lead to health benefits. In an NPR article “Stem Cell Research: An NPR Special Report” it says “private sector research may lead to ethical abuses”(Arti K. RaI/2017/NPR/“Stem Cell Research: An NPR Special Report”). Shows that publicly funding it can prevent ethical abuses and the research can be regulated under the government’s watch.…

The question of “designer babies” is one that is fairly recent and controversy of the topic starts from the very definition of the term. When one is presented with the term “designer babies”, Most people imagine a genetically engineered being who is less human and more technology. This false stigma mainly comes from the negative reputation of Genetically modified species such as food or animals. However, the reality is quite different, it can be argued that even choosing a fertilised cell as an embryo during IVF is a form of a designer baby. After conducting a questionnaire; 86.76% of people believed a “designer baby” was a being which was genetically engineered to have selective traits.…

To begin with, the technology used is not one hundred percent safe, and the embryo could accidentally be destroyed during the procedure. Along with the dangers of the death of the embryo, designer babies could gain an unfair advantage in the society with the modification of genes to be more advantageous mentally and externally. This could also create societies between designer and non-designer babies. In reality, these groups are already shown between the rich and the poor; the procedure would not be cheap as well, which could also create problems. Although I do not agree with the use of this technology for these aesthetic purposes, it would most likely be used under the table; even if there was a law against…

Picture this: a world where everyone looks exactly the same--ridden with birth defects, religion has disappeared because people can control their environment with a simple insertion or deletion of a gene, and no one is sure of the future because every couple years, a virus that was supposed to harmlessly alter genes mutates to harmfully cause a deadly epidemic. Sound familiar? Maybe not yet, but at the rate we 're going, the world isn 't far away from the scenario just described due to the ever-increasing rate of genetic engineering occurring in today 's world. From genetically modified crops to mice that glow in the dark to bacteria that produce insulin, countless uses of genetic engineering have appeared in just a few short years, and without…
