She was just another Tumblr girl running lightheartedly along the almost empty LA beach. The warm setting sun beat down on her deep olive tone skin and her bleach blonde hair was waving in the wind, while the white, wet sand flicked up behind her with every moving step she took. Her best friend was running alongside her with a long strand of seaweed in her hands.
The sky was a mix of colors. Bright bold red intertwined with the honey yellow sitting on top of the neon blue sky. It was like a swirling bowl of paints just coming off the brush into the water. You could see the reflection of the sunset in the ocean. The rippling waves look as if it was calling you to swim out to the cotton candy looking sunset. The clouds across from the sun were like marshmallows, fluffy and white contrasting with the blue sky. Looking off the start of the dock it almost looked like a rainbow of colors. The palm trees beside me swayed with the slightest amount of wind. The large chameleon tone green leaves bobbed and waved with the direction of the breeze, almost fighting it to stay still.

I walked down to the soft white sandy beach and dipped a toe in the hot tub like water. I quickly shedded my ankle length tan colored open front sweater and dove into the shallow water. I waved my hands in the salty water as a forcefully shut my eyes. It felt warm and comforting, kind of like you were being hugged by the oceans soul. You could hear the seagulls flocking back together for the night. They were flying over top of me in search for a familiar face. The large white bird made high pitch caw as it flew above the ocean. The sound of the ocean was like a lullaby to my ears, it was calming and tranquil. You could feel the mystery in the water and hear it in the waves. There was so much not discovered that you didn’t know what you could find. I slipped on my black goggles, and held my breath as a submerged myself under the

At the crack of dawn, I wake up, trying to be as quiet as possible, intensely rummage through the refrigerator. While the sun taunts me with a beautiful spectrum of crisp orange and bright pinks creeping over the horizon, I hurry to leave my grandmother’s beach house and head over to the serene beach. On my way toward the water, dogs are seen in the distance playing in the cool sand and sticking their paws in the salty water. In addition, from laying their eggs in the sand, are long sand trails from horseshoe crabs. Finally reaching the water, I sit down and observe the sun as it slowly creeps over the horizon until the many vibrant pinks and luminous orange rays turn into a solid golden beam of sunlight.…

I walked through the dust and dirt to the familiar nondescript building I had come to know and love: Merek South in Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. Trumpet case in hand, I pushed open the teal double doors and was met with a wall of sound. I felt the corners of my mouth rise and give birth to an excited grin as I walked past the percussion equipment and other trumpet players to the only open seat, which stood out in sharp contrast against the sea of blue polo shirts and navy blue pants--the required uniform of the camp. I had attended Blue Lake before, but now I was about to embark on their international exchange program, which would bring me to France, Germany, and Holland for five weeks during the Summer. “Are you Patrick from Maryland,” asked a girl in the middle of the section who I later learned was Julia.…

We came together with my father’s family, the Pogwizd’s, at (put the name of land here when you remember). (Name of land again) was like our little home away from home with it smelled of pine trees. Behind that lurked smoke from a distant bonfire up behind the house with freshly caught salmon grilling over the nearby flames. Cherries, huckleberries, and blackcaps coated the roads and hiking paths near the lake and everything vibrated with the buzz of hummingbirds and bees.…

A godly aurora uplifts the wooden box, covered in chipping shades of bumblegum pink and gentle blue, from it’s present state on top of my dresser, as it forever holds the jewels of my past. In search of nostalgia, the contents of this unusual box are shrewn across the sheets of the queen-size bed in which I lay; one earring, one bracelet, one partially broken chain, yet they somehow belong there, despite the distinct differences between these memory-deriving ornaments. Within this miscellanous container, lies a special necklace with a dolphin charm, that always conjures up memories of Coney Island before it’s Great Renovation. It takes me back 5 or 6 years to the day I was twirling through this amusement park; rides blurrily passing by my eyes,…

During April of 2015, I stepped out of the car and onto the beach for the first time in Destin, Florida; the salty sea stung my nose as I breathed in a refreshing breath of briny air. The first step onto the sand was like a bed of blankets; soft and comfortable. The way the white sand glided onto my feet and squished between my toes felt like heaven. The waves were singing a delicate lullaby, pulling me closer to them. As I walk towards the ocean with the warm sand beneath my feet, the cold waves lap at my ankles, as if they want to take me away.…

It seemed to stretch up to the sky, letting the light come through in shafts through a canopy of green leaves, and long skinny branches joined together to make a green umbrella. There are all shades of green and browns, with the sun teasing in and out of the branches, and leaves creating yet more beautiful hues. I remember the way carpet of soft green grass felt under my bare feet, the sounds of cracking twigs. Once in a while, if I listened carefully a rustle of little creatures scurrying back and forth. Reconciliation Interrupted by the faint sounds of birds chirping and grass swaying in the gentle breeze, the calming silence became a distant memory. As the birds flapped their wings, moving at the edge of the tiny meadow, from one tree to the next, they cast their shadows over the body of a small brown skinned, black haired girl. She lay on her back in the hilltop grass, facing directly up towards the almost blinding light of the afternoon sun. Her dark skin, holding a lively warm glow, reflected the rays of sunlight off of her quickly flickering eyelids. Suddenly, they were open, revealing her dark brown almond shaped eyes and her ever so slightly off white sclera.…
