Superior Essays
We were all standing together in a very small room, it was barely big enough to fit the thirty of us that were in our age group. We were all hoping that any of us were going to get an adoption recommendation. No one likes to go for our age group for reason that are unknown. Our advisors for our age group were making their way through the crowded room, trying to get into the center, there was an updated adoption list today. Everyone in the room was nervous; the room was dead silent. The advisors were in the center of the room; everyone’s eyes were on them. We had the kitchen after each meal today and we had to take out the garbage today if necessary. We walked to the kitchen and started the normal routine: rinsing the dishes, putting them in the dishwasher, making sure it was full and started, and washing the rest by hand. We listened to hear if something was going on. There was slight screaming in the living room. It sounded like Duke and Michelle were taking care of it. I was wiping down the counters and Shaun was taking out the trash, he walked out the back door and both Michelle and Duke were standing in the doorway of the …show more content…
I interrupted him.
“Wait, Shaun needs to be here too.”
“He will find out. Michelle is talking to him. We found out that there was a pending adoption for you guys. You are probably wondering if it’s us adopting you. That is going to remain unknown until we find out if it’s going to get approved. I’m telling you so that you’re not upset when you do find out.” He told me. He walked out of the room before I could ask him any questions. The day went by like any normal day: chores, school, homework, more chores and then lights out.

The next day started out really weird, first I slept in, Michelle had to wake me up. Second, there was a group meeting and neither Shaun or I knew about it, and three everyone except Duke was gone. Michelle must have taken the group somewhere. That only happens on birthdays, holidays or other special occasions. There was no birthdays, wasn’t a holiday, so that means something special is happening. I wonder? I kept the thoughts to myself. I went downstairs and looked at the chore list. Shaun and I didn’t have a chore today. Since I didn’t have to do anything I decided to go catch up on some things. When I got finished I could hear people coming in the front the door. I ran down the stairs and saw that everyone was back, Shaun was with

I learnt the act of collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, decision making by consensus building, and most importantly; comradeship.…
