Shakespeare uses a lot of imagery in Hamlet to express to the tone of his work to the audience. If Shakespeare didn’t use the imagery, he used then this play wouldn’t be understood like the way it is understood today. The descriptive language he uses really puts us in the shoes of Hamlet.
Some examples of his descriptive language are as follows. “Hamlet says his body and the world are contaminated” this speaks to me in that he is trying to say that we as people corrupt this world and make it contaminated because we are contaminated as people. The skull its self is a physical reminder of the determination of death. After all of Hamlets heavy and logical thought of morality Hamlet literally looks death directly in the face. As you can probably guess it’s a turning point for hamlet. He thinks about commonness of death and the vanity of life. He not only remembers Yorick but also considers what’s become of alexander the greats body hamlet soon concludes that they both meet the same end and “returned into dust”. In the beginning of the play we learn that Hamlet is wearing an all black cloak because he is in sorrow for his dead dad. But it turns out he is the only one that is wearing black. We later find out that now that Claudius is king he wants everyone to be happy like he is and in order to do this he wants everyone to forget about the old Hamlet. So Hamlet wearing his black cloak sets him apart from everyone else. Just like his sorrow sets him apart from everyone else. Hamlet doesn’t seem to mind that he stands out intel his mom points out to him that he seems so sad and he goes off on her its like she just unleashed the fury of Hamlet. “tis not alone my inky cloak, good mother, nor customary suits of solemn black, nor windy suspiration of forced breath, no, nor the fruitful river in the eye nor the dejected havior of the visage, together with al forms, moods, shapes of grief”. Now in English we see that Hamlet objects to the idea that any outwardly signs can show how he really feels deep down inside. Hamlet says no matter what he wears it can’t even begin to show how he really feels deep down
