My First Cruise

I remember like it was yesterday the year I decided to take my first vacation without the kids. My fiancé and I went on a week long cruise to Mexico. Neither one of us had ever been on a cruise so it was a new experience for the both of us. We needed to be in New Orleans for departure so we drove the six hours from Jonesboro, Arkansas to New Orleans, Louisiana. My fiancé and I used this time to talk, make plans for the future and fantasize about our week away from the kids and work. Everyone cheering and shouting as we come along another cruise ship sailing to destinations unknown. I was so happy I had a smile from ear to ear but I was also sea sick. I had to take After a trip to the infirmary I was wearing patches and taking pills the rest of the trip. There was a day I spent the whole morning in bed because of being nauseated. Two days into the cruise we happen upon hurricane Irene now I was terrified. The boat was rocking more than usual, you can see the waves crashing higher up the side of the boat. The sky was so dark it looks like night at ten o'clock in the morning. The crew tried to take everyone's mind off the storm by playing games and just keeping the guests busy. Later the Capitan invited everyone on board to a formal dinner where we had to dress up. The menu had orange chicken, peking duck, lemon fish, smother lamb I had to try something new. During dinner the Capitan came around and introduce himself and took pictures with the guests. After dinner we attended a Broadway show that looked and felt like we were back in Louisiana. There was singing and dancing, they blew horns and beat on garbage cans and threw beads, it was a scene from madi gras. The show was a helpful distraction from the storm until it was over and I was back in my cabin. The cruise had to take a detour from what we now know as hurricane Irene.
