Descriptive Essay: The Moore Tornado

There's been many experiences that I have been through that many people may have not gone through. For example, the Moore tornado. Not many people can say they have been a couple blocks away from a two mile wide tornado with winds of 210 miles an hour. It was a scary experience. It was May 20th and meteorologist in Oklahoma City predicted dangerous storms capable of producing large hail and tornadoes were going to move through central Oklahoma. Everyone in the whole city of Moore was looking out for storms on the radar and keeping a close eye on the news. I went to school that day, forgetting about the threat of storms until everyone started getting checked out. At that point, I started getting a little afraid. I finally got a phone call through to my mom after several failed attempts because everyone in the city was using their phones all at once trying to get ahold of children and parents. Finally getting to the car, we started towards my siblings school right next door, picked them up, and started back to the house. When I walked into the house, my grandma was sitting on the couch watching the news as the tornado got closer and closer to Moore and eventually coming really close to my house. My whole family was sitting in the living room in front of the television watching this giant tornado. The meteorologist said that it was approaching the street we lived on and my first reaction was to go outside and watch it pass by. The ground began to shake and you could hear the strong winds coming off the tornado. We ran back into the house as it came closer to go under some cover just in case we got hit, which we didn't.
