Descriptive Essay: The Art Of Snowboarding

I'm not normally a fan of the cold or winter weather. Shivering is painful; no matter how many layers I put on, frigid air has a way of seeping into my bones. One day I hope to be somewhere warm year-round, where my pale skin can get a taste of hot sunshine everyday. But if this dream ever comes true, I might just vacation in the snow. Every now and then cold can be good. The one thing that would possess me to subject myself to the bitter air is the rejuvenating activity of snowboarding. Despite the thin, cold mountain atmosphere, the slopes teach me something that is not as easily learned at the beach. The sound of wind replaces the noise of stress and all the ruckus of reality; up there I can find a peace not even the melody of ocean waves crashing at my feet can give. It's hard to learn and physically exerting, not to mention the thousands of bruises that come with the learning process. Ice is unforgiving. But after many hours and a pair of brand name snow pants ripped to pieces, I could slide down the bunny slope with ease. "Am I doing this right?" I asked, comparing my wide carving tracks to the straight speed of pros flying out of the terrain park. "There is no right or wrong," she replied, "That's the beauty of snowboarding, it's whatever you want it to be." Those words have stuck with me every time I strap the board to my feet. Snowboarding is whatever I want it to be. That is one of the reasons I love it. Nobody is going to tell me what to do, and there is no way to fail. There is only a blank canvas waiting for me to make it whatever I wish, and if I fall, that just becomes part of the picture before I pick myself up and continue the journey. I find it is a beautiful analogy of life in this world: cold, harsh, and sometimes painful, but an unforgettable experience full of elation if time and effort are
