Descriptive Essay: The New Garage

Great Essays
When I was ten years old my parents decided to add on to our house, but in the least exciting way. We were building a new garage. Out of all the rooms in my house, this space has given me the most memories with my favorite people, my neighbors, and family. The Garage, which is often referred to as “the New Garage” for a the lack of a better nickname, has been home to many happy moments in my life. The space has hosted numerous weekend gatherings with my neighbors, a couple grad parties for my siblings, along with the nightly …show more content…
When walking in, there is a small kitchen, a long stainless steel counter with mismatched stools, and a triple-decker shelf of various fishtanks. The small-makeshift kitchen is made up of a black oven, a white refrigerator, and a bar with numerous different bottles. My Dad generally prefers to cook in the Garage because he can watch his favorite shows on the TV as he cooks. The TV is regularly on, playing an episode of Modern Family, NCIS, or broadcasting a football game. Often I can hear the comforting hum of the actors and athletes voices when I help cook dinner. A smile consistently comes to my face when I look at the giant black spot on the side of the refrigerator. The blemish is the outcome of a small fire that came from the stove that sits adjacent to it. One night, after a long day of fishing, my Dad was so excited about what he had caught, wanting to fry the fish right away. He put the greasy oil into an enormous pan and began to heat it up. I seasoned the chicken well with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, curry powder, and sage. I tossed the pieces around in the BBQ sauce mix and put them in the oven. On the internet, it said to let it cook for 1 hour at 350 degrees. Since I was starving and a naive young boy, I put the temperature at 500 degrees and let the chicken cook for 20 minutes. The outside was golden brown and sticky.…

The Boca does not take long to heat up, only about five minutes, so I usually don't pull the Boca out of the freezer until the oven is heated up and ready for the taco shells. While the taco shells cook in the oven for 5-6 minutes, I heat my Boca up over the stove. After the Boca is heated up and the shells are ready, just top your tacos with your favorite toppings and dinner is ready. My second favorite recipe I make with Boca burger is called Tater Tot Casserole. I take out two packets…

They meant that the time for work was over, and the time for pleasure had begun. It’s no secret that my dad has always loved food, and cooking dinner for our family brought him to a place where he was at peace. With Google as my favorite cookbook, I’ll scroll through the countless list of Paleo recipes for anything that sparks my tastebuds. Chicken is universal so I will add it to the list as a staple for my meal planning. A roast is quick to construct in a crockpot and the kids will eat it so it too makes my list.
