Descriptive Essay On Snow Day

I value winter for not only its activities, snow days, or cheering fires, but above all for its simple, natural beauty. I stop in my step, mesmerized by the painted canvas around me. I feel a tingle inside me as I take in my surroundings. There is the perfect mix of blues, greys and whites as I gaze into the sky amongst the fluffy grey clouds. Amongst this painting in the sky, rings of yellow and pale orange create a precise flickering circle. The rings cast a dim glimmer through the colours of the sky. Just then, an icy cold wind rushes through the naked forest to meet me as it howls in my ears and whistles past my face in a scurry, sending a thrilling chill down my spine. In my vision, the trees line the forest, leafless and bare, hiding no secret. Every branch is covered in a sugary …show more content…
The snowflakes shiver and shimmer in the wind, fluttering here and there in an endless dance pattern. They move in soft flurries, innocently towards the ground settling on my skin, my hair, and barely, brushing my nose. The moment we come in contact with each other, the snowflakes disappear into water droplets, instantly, sending a smile to my face. With every movement that I make the snowflakes slightly, rise above the ground and twirl around my feet. They magically dart around and slowly settle back down on the ground to join their companions. Gradually, I make my way through a weightless veil of mist that has collected together, closer to the heavy layer of snow covering the ground. At this time of the day, the mist passes by my ankles slowly and mysteriously. It walks away from the forest along with me, away from the true beauty of the winter. Before I enter my house the fresh air and wafting smell of my hot cocoa collide right underneath my red-tipped nose. I know that one sip of the hot beverage will allow the flavours of cream and chocolate to burst across my tongue. One glance back into the distance and I realize that the true beauty of winter has won my heart once

The last vestiges of fall had passed and only brown, shriveled leaves remained on the sidewalk. Trees appeared naked, shivering without their blanket of color. Cold air blew through their skinny, lifeless branches, tossing the trees around as though they were mere sticks rather than giants. She shuddered as the chilly wind kissed her brow, leaving a wretched disease of ice and sorrow in its wake. Within this wintry prison there was no joy, there was no warmth, and, above all, there was no diversity.…

Towering trunks of pine and birch grow with ease in the rich abundance of soil that is the forest floor. Each tree accepts the chaotic placement of silky pine needles and glistening pebbles that merge together on the ground. The bending of the grained bark is like a rainy Sunday, relaxed and peaceful. A carefree attitude is represented throughout the forest because all trees grow at their own pace. The forest has no plans for the future; therefore, instead of stressing and worrying each tree just grows and learns along the way.…

He describes this place as being cold and frigid knowing that spring will eventually come causing everything to be serene and beautiful again. The image of “shivering birds beneath the eaves” (3) suggests that the cold weather is too unbearable for the birds to be relaxed. Mckay’s use of imagery depicts the warmth that spring brings once the winter season is over. He reveals that there is always hope for a fresh start. He portrays this area as being harsh and bleak for those in it, but he implies how they will eventually become happy and calm when the winter season is over.…

The poem “Those Winter Sundays” by Robert Hayden is a short lyrical poem that tells a particular story about the relationship between a father and son. Though the poem is filled with complex emotions, the simplistic language of the poem brings out the great use of imagery and alliteration that drawls out the density in each line. This poem is about two people, a son and a father. The son is recalling back to his adolescent years and his tough relationship with his father. The son, as a boy, did not see the love his father had for him and in turn never returned love back; however, the son, as a man, realized that his father’s hard work and small actions like making a fire early in the morning were huge indicators of his father’s love and devotion…

The hoodies and gloves flooded back on as the bitter cold atmosphere became evident, but the thin-light jackets weren’t enough to obstruct the frosty wind. Hail came with the blasting wind, stinging my oh-so-cold face and soaking my frenzied hair. Only the summit lies ahead, a monument of fear, casting doubt in my head. Hands frozen, the tips of my fingers purple from the combination of cold temperatures and sharp rocks, I stopped. Just below the monstrous pile of frozen stones sits a small valley with small trees, a sure harbor from the cold.…

    Snow Globe Essay

Snow globes are made of clear glass, a transparent sphere with a scenic view and a plastic toy inside the globe. The sphere likewise encases the water in the globe; the water fills in as the medium through, where the snow falls. The globe must be shaken to actuate the snow so the white particles can fall gradually to reach the base. When the snowflakes/object falls, it experiences two external forces which are; the gravitational force and the aerodynamic (air resistance) drag of the object, which gradually brings the object down. Furthermore, the drag force affects the object because of the shape and the viscosity of the fluid.…
