Night Terrors
I usually wake up screaming. They called night terrors. In the middle of the night you will wake up and bolt upright in bed, screaming as loud as you’re able. After a night terror the person will simply lie back down and fall asleep, just like that. They don’t remember anything the next morning. The real victims are the family. For a husband who hears his wife 's screams next to him. For a daughter to hear her mother scream through the walls as though she were being murdered in her bed. It’s enough to give an adult nightmares. I can’t imagine what it’s doing to Emma.

I sigh, relieved I wasn’t screaming thankful to wake up in the quiet darkness for once. A shrill cry rang through the house, sounding so similar to the one in the dream. “Emma” I whispered to myself. I flip off the covers and scrambled out of the room. Running to her room, I pass the ancient grandfather clock I jump as it booms abruptly it never seemed so loud before. The stairway is on the way to her room and I skidded to a halt at the bottom of the steps when I heard her moaning from upstairs. I sprint up them, two at a time I flew onto the landing when my eyes lock onto the hall closet where the now quiet wailing was coming from. I froze. Somewhere in my adrenaline-saturated mind, something occurred to me. Was it Emma? I never checked her bedroom. "Emma?" I whispered. The moaning stopped. It was silent for a minute. I felt goose bumps rise on my arms. My eyes were fixed on the white door. There’s nothing in this house, but that was my Emma screaming. I didn’t move. My thoughts spun through muddy images of nightmare creatures such as ghost, murderous clowns, and possessed dolls. “You’re being stupid.” I told myself.
