We made it! She screeched in joy as she ran down the rolling hills. The wait and struggle was finally over. The beautiful colours and picturesque landscape was too overwhelming, the gardens were perfect and unbelievably symmetrical on each side of the path. We had travelled long and far to reach this moment. The colourful meadows are of bounty. The rolling hills are covered with flowers of every sort, with every colour, size and shape that you could only dream of. The neat path a scar through the scenic meadows. The scent of the flowers leaving you taking in deep breaths and holding it longer than usual, filling your lungs with the smell of a sweet aroma; making the most out of each breath you take.

An unordinary path to say the least. Large blocks of stone embedded in the soft sand scattered unevenly across the path leaves us confused on how to cross over. Leaning on one knee, digging into the granular ground, I crouch over. Gently I slide my hand on the closest rock to me. The rough texture having a serrated feeling to the touch of a gentle hand. Pushing down on the boulder, the earth around it shudder and shakes, the stones could only be fatal. Standing up I brush the grains of sand from my knee and look up at her; in deep thought of our next move. In her eyes I could see the urge to continue, this was the only way to keep our hopes of finding our destination. There was only one other way, and that was back, back to where we had come from. We had come too far to just turn around and leave. It would always be a feeling of regret, the thought of failure and disappointing …show more content…
She nods slowly, determination written all over her face as she looks towards the path ahead. Counting together, 1,2,3. We skip onto the first stone before leaping onto the next. One after the other we run and skip and leap between each boulder. Each boulder falling under our weight as we skip across, disappearing into the underground. With no time to look back we jump off the last stone, running as if the sand as well, will drop beneath us. The music now louder than ever as we run on forward. We come to a sudden stop. A blockade enables us from running. We find ourselves at the foot of something large enough to block out the falling sun. a mountain.

Looking up, it isn’t the prettiest of mountains to climb. Far from being the tallest of mountains, the steepness itself strikes doubt at its first instance. Without a second thought, we climb the mountain. Pushing off each leg, bits of rubble break off the rock making it hard to grip on securely. Each push of the legs and pull of the arms adds to the fatigue built up from the sweltering heat. Reaching for the top of the mountain, the last stride drains all the energy out of me. Standing up on top of the mountain, I hold out my arm, helping her climb up the final hang, hauling her

The Montrose Precipice I It all went back to the summer of 1932 when tragedy struck; its affect was wide-spread in the community, most of it at least. Little occurred in Montrose, Colorado, but what it lacked excitement, it made up for in character. Stories arose, those about the precipice, the ancient precipice, home to a demon, or so they say.…

Sometimes I dream that I am again standing at the pathway of the Burkley house. The chimney billowed with smoke, and the magnolia bushes in full bloom; like they once did in that spring time air which curled around your every movement. I dream of again clomping my over-sized shoes against the ever twisting stone path, catching rain drops and petals in my unkempt hair. I will not lie; I do long for the Burkley house, for the essence of my youth still stays trapped in those lengthy hallways. I often forget the blizzards that struck, the lighting that cast us in darkness, the people I met.…

Mojos As I went to Mojos I choose to sit outside on the deck for a little while. The deck had three black, steel tables on it with four chairs at each table— which probably was not a smart idea to sit on since it was absolutely hot outside. Leaves and twigs crunch with each step against the hard, gravel floor. Tall, sturdy trees towered along either sides of the path, the canopies forming a gentle arc, almost as though they were cradling me. A very slight breeze whisks through, a few branches swaying to the melody of the wind. The humidity would be unbearable, if not for the occasional whiff of wind that caresses my skin.…

Rocks still pelt them as everybody runs away, as far away as they can. Ash floats, in layers of suffocating material in contrast to the fast, free falling cinders. The ray of light from the flashlight casts a luminescent glow on the ground, allowing us to keep a watchful eye on where we are stepping. As we walk, I feel the crunch of breaking thin ice, and the stickiness of the mud under my feet. I smell the crisp, clean aroma of the morning air. We weave our way through the woods trying to avoid puddles of unfrozen water, and logs that are in the way of the trails we have made. Finally, I spot the…

Reconciliation Interrupted by the faint sounds of birds chirping and grass swaying in the gentle breeze, the calming silence became a distant memory. As the birds flapped their wings, moving at the edge of the tiny meadow, from one tree to the next, they cast their shadows over the body of a small brown skinned, black haired girl. She lay on her back in the hilltop grass, facing directly up towards the almost blinding light of the afternoon sun. Her dark skin, holding a lively warm glow, reflected the rays of sunlight off of her quickly flickering eyelids. Suddenly, they were open, revealing her dark brown almond shaped eyes and her ever so slightly off white sclera.…
