The lights are the first thing the audience experience in this piece, then comes sound and movement. From the begging the lighting design was unique in the since that there was emphasis on the curtains. There were lights shining directly on the wings drapes. They were simply horizontal lines stacking straight up. The choice to have the lights show up first gave the audience time to take in the lights and create their own idea of what the lights represented. There were two sets/types of lines that created this look. There was a heavily weighted line that went up the curtain at an equal width. Above that line, not so equidistant was a lesser weighted line, creating almost reflected look. The lines were a soft blue almost white color, which reminded me of glass windows. The reflecting lines going up the curtain and blue light caught me to think about skyscrapers in a city. Coupling the natural wave of the curtain also reminded me of what a glass corporate looks like when you drive by it. From the first light cue I was able to place this dance in a large city. The first thing I notice was the sound was a really loud. The second was that the sound tech went to the booth to make an adjustment. What I believe affected the sound was the fact there were less people in attendance to the than expected. I also believe the intro was too long. While some sound introductions create suspense and anticipation I found myself wondering if someone had made a mistake. What told me that it was not was that it happen again in piece. Having a shorts intro would have been more effective. In the beginning of the intro because there was not any dance I had time to take in the lighting and anticipate movement but that soon died. As an audience member I had made my decision on the piece and was waiting for
