Not Just another Lake House
Our family lake house is full of fun and gregarious laughter all summer long. Ever since I have been old enough to remember, I have spent the bulk of my summer weekends on mile marker number 3. This is where my grandparents have owned a lake house since I have been alive.
My dad and grandparents have owned homes at the lake since the late 1960s, so it is no shock that I have also acquired a taste for wanting to leave the populace and noisy city and head out highway 70 towards southern Missouri were life is much simpler and quieter. I guess you could probably say the Lake of the Ozarks is my second home.
Ever since I can remember, come 5:00 PM on a Friday night, our car was packed with clothes and food and

The first dock is about 50 yards from our place. This is where our family pontoon boat and Baja are parked. Plus there is a big swim deck right next to our boats. If our family isn’t up at the pool swimming some of us can be found at the dock, swimming or laying around talking. I have many fond memories of me hanging out with my entire family on this dock. My grandpa also has a cruiser that is essentially located a bit further down the cove. Although it is a decent walk, it is definitely worth the effort to ride on that …show more content…
As expected another big family breakfast and the day starts with a stroll down to the docks for a full day out on the water. Usually everyone spends the bulk of the day taking rides on the Searay, tubing on the Baja, or taking out the Seadoo. After fun, food, refreshments, and sometimes sunburns, we head back to the house to relax and unwind and prepare our bellies for more of grandma’s home cooking. I don’t know if I am up to eating appetizers, a full meal, and deserts. Early to bed we go on Saturday night and up for 10:00 am Sunday mass and the drive back up highway 54 north to highway 70 east to our home in the STL. I can’t wait to get back in the white minivan around 5:00 PM again this upcoming Friday. This is why our lake house is so special to me, family, friends, food, and

When I was about 3 years old, I can remember my Grandparents lake house in Houston, Texas. My parents and I lived there until my grandparents moved into the country 2 hours outside Houston. Before moving, I can remember my mother taking me out to the lake to feed the ducks and always telling me I can’t swim in the lake because it’s too dirty. I remember going into the kitchen to get juice and spilled it everywhere and was found cleaning my mess while cursing because I thought saying “Shit” and “God Damnit” would magically clean the mess. I would grab a stick of butter and sit 3 inches from the television while watching the Teletubbies.…

When I was ten years old, I moved to West Texas. I loved swimming in the lakes and ponds around my home before, so I was disappointed when I found out that there was only one body of water near my new home. This “lake” (about the size of a football field) was called Clearwater Lake. It took about an hour’s time to drive there. The first time my family drove over there, I was amazed by how many people there were, all the cars packed liked sardines, the people moving so slowly it was like molasses.…
