Oasis Springs: A Narrative Fiction

Observation – life has a way of getting away from me of late despite the time I dedicate to planning and preparing. Oasis Springs lies at the root of this recent development, I’m sure. After all, things always went according to plan before I moved here, my days quiet, orderly, peaceful – dull, boring and predictable. Now? Let’s take my failed attempt at a barbeque for example, my efforts to throw the party of the year resulting in the fiasco of a lifetime. I swear, I will never live long enough to forget that night. As for this evening, I intended to spend my time with a decent dinner, a box of Kleenix and an enthralling movie. I didn’t mind Blaine ‘dropping in on me’ and I certainly didn’t want him to leave. At the same time, I had no desire to come across some love struck teenager desperate to keep the infatuation of her life at her side. “Honestly, I’d enjoy the company. Besides, I could hardly play the part of the rude hostess after you saved my life.”

Blaine’s face lit up with a brilliant smile, his eyes sparkling, warm laughter filling the room. “You know, in some cultures I now own you…at least until you save my life or do something equally heroic on my behalf,” he pointed out, the mischievous glint in those intense green eyes informing me the man dared to tease me.

The Imperial Valley: Permanent Oasis by Cory Phillips Imperial County, California has been a major agricultural, political, and commercial center in Southeastern California for over 100 years. Although the peripheral agricultural activities have been the focus and source of the region’s economy, the area’s role in agribusiness has also facilitated much urban growth. The farms in the Imperial Valley bring about $1,000,000,000 to the state’s economy each year. This rural and urban expansion has been enabled, exclusively, by the delivery of water from the Colorado River, via the All-American Canal, to the otherwise desiccated rift zone by the Imperial Irrigation District (IID). To date, the Imperial Valley has no source…
