Nana’s Touch
On the evening of June 17, 2013, my mother spoke three words that forever changed my life. She said “Madison, she’s gone,” and my stomach dropped twelve feet below the surface and my whole world turned inside out and upside down. My Nana was the first real loss in my life. My family and I would visit room 107 to see her beautiful glowing face every week. I would roll her down to the cafeteria to see all of her friends and play a good old fashioned game known as Bingo and we won every time. Each room she entered lit up like the brightest shining star in the sky.
She was loved by so many. In fact, everyone she ever talked to fell in love with her, starting with her smile. She would grin ear to ear despite how she really felt. She

I was Madison, my mom was Beth Anne, and my dad and brother were both called Steve even though their names are Mark and Tyler. She gave out compliments left and right like people give out candy to children on Halloween night. Nana was my true best friend. She never once let me down or made me feel unworthy, instead she would always lift my spirits and tell me how beautiful I am. On her little brown shelf, there sat an orange and fluffy motorized owl- like creature, known as Furby. He was my responsibility to feed and give attention to because she normally forgot he was there. Furby has been on my mom’s side of the family for …show more content…
She only liked the Pralines N’ Cream and Black Walnut flavors, which are completely disgusting in my opinion. She was an odd ball. We used to spend every Thanksgiving and Christmas with her and her friends. She managed to somehow get presents for all of us. She normally finished her Turkey dinner with a big slice of Pecan Pie. My Nana had a lot of friends, but only a few best friends. She and Ernestine were the definition of two peas in a pod. Robert was like the second husband she never had and they fought like an old married

The first interesting quote, “the selfless work of these entertainers… amounting to the astounding total of eighty-eight million” discuss the risky job of entertaining soldiers in order to boost morale, lessen fatigue as well as decrease anxiety. Some of these routines were performed with ear shot of grueling combat. These groups became known as the “singing army” and are interesting due to the fact that these artistes put themselves in harm’s way to help alleviate soldiers. The second interesting ‘quote’ is a string of quotes, “She determined that ragtime… most of the boys are singing with me” in which they discuss how Paula Lind Ayres was able to develop a “treatment” for those affected with shell shock.…

Turkle states that children learn to shift from a psychology of projection to engagement with their Furbies because they understand that, “You have to continually assess your Furby’s ‘emotional’ and ‘physical’ state” (Turkle, 470). Children come to see more than just the physical toy characteristics of the Furby because the Furby makes it seem that it requires the care of the children for its advancement. Since children view these dynamic characteristics of the Furby as those of a living being, they form the misconception that the Furby is in fact a living thing. Turkle talks about her studies on the interactions children have with Furbies as Daisy, a child in her study, says “‘You have to teach it; when you buy it, that is your job. It’s alive, I teach it about whales; it loves me.’”…

With what little wisdom and perspective I have at twenty-one years of age, one thing about which I am certain is the harshness and deep-felt pain of the hole left behind when a loved one dies. If I know nothing else to be true, it is the ache and sometimes-unbearable sadness my family and I are experiencing at the loss of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. But just as much as that sorrow is real, so, too, is the welcome relief of laughter and love we exchange as we remember the wonderful, funny life of our very dear Patty. It is only with fond remembrance and a good laugh that we are able to keep our heads when dealing with the grief of losing my Grandma, and she has given us an abundance of anecdotes and stories with which we can chuckle and attempt to patch the huge hole that settled in our hearts.…

In the novel “Nana”, Zola depicted a picture of naturalistic fictional word in which the character’s surrounding and social environment was described. Through the incidences happened on those characters, it lets us to figure out insights and beliefs about French Society in 19th century. The conflict between the religious mysticism and sensuality is the point of discussion in “Nana”. Sexual empowerment and desires were heavily emphasized in the novel as the sensorial images and descriptions regarding to those characters were portrayed. The reason I choose this topic is that Zola used a naturalistic way to depict the character’s life, unlike other literatures where the emotion of characters and idealism were artificially distorted by the narrator.…
