Descriptive Essay: My Trip To Georgia

Water abundantly and wildly flowed like the spirit of God across the trail from creeks, streams and springs due to the recent rain storms. However, the need for this life giving energy wasn't as required as my hike on Georgia's ruthless and steep terrain during the summer. On this trip, I only lugged around about a liter of water and I filtered it with a Sawyer mini filter (2 oz) instead of chemically treating with Aquamira chlorine dioxide drops. The taste was much better despite the water having no taste at all. The stench of sweaty polyester didn't exist either since I had switched totally to merino wool (I prefer Icebreaker merino wool from New Zealand) from head to toe before my trip in Georgia. (Yes, head to toe to include 100% merino wool hiking shorts and underwear. It may sound gross, but I tested a pair of underwear for a week and still no smell). However, in Georgia, I had made the mistake of wearing polyester half-finger gloves to protect my hands from blisters while using hiking sticks. This time, well, you guessed it right, my new gloves had an outer covering made of merino wool and no longer did …show more content…
I actually jogged a few straight aways just to test my shoes and pack. I arrived with enough sunlight to setup my tent next to the shelter, fill my two 700 ml “smart water” bottles from a nearby spring, and test my new stove setup.

I had longed for a night totally alone in the wilderness to reinforce my faith in God and protection from the wild. He had other plans knowing I was good to go solo. Instead, I camped next to the Carter Gap shelter housing 3 other hikers. During my short 109 miles on the AT, I’ve pitched my tent in a variety of spots along the AT; however, I prefer pitching my tent near a shelter to take advantage of the bear cables (most of the shelters in Georgia have them), the privy, and there is usually a reliable source of water from a stream or

TITLE Anza-Borrego Exploration: A Guide to Camping in the Desert LEAD PARAGRAPH When you think of camping, do you typically envision tents, grass, oak trees and bears (oh my!)? After spending the weekend camping in the vast Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, my notion of camping expanded tremendously. Let me set the stage by laying out just a few of the splendors you’re likely to encounter on the trail: sand, wild flowers, palm trees, and, if you’re lucky, big horn sheep! If you stay the night, you’re sure to see some tents and campfires too, so no need to reframe your entire perception of camping. For a detailed account of this non-traditional campers’ wonderland, read on!…

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the wild? Do you envision dangerous animals and food cooked over a fire you had to build? One way that you can have that experience is by camping on a nature preserve or at a large lake. I have camped many times while growing up but the two places I remember the most would be Wichita Mountains or Lake DeGrey. Both of the places are places that people can go camping at if they are looking to get out of the city.…

Did you know that the state of Georgia was the last colony out of the first 13 colonies to be formed? Named after King George II, the colony was settled by James Oglethorpe in 1733, and it was considered a state by 1788. The purpose of the colony was to serve as a military buffer between the other 12 colonies and the Spanish Florida. During the Civil War, multiple battles took place in the colony, one of them being, “The Battle of Pickett’s Mill”, which occurred in 1864. Before the Civil War, Georgia didn’t have a state flag.…

I shall always remember my first year working at Turkey Hill Ranch. I have always possessed an enduring fondness of the lovely church camp over all the years I’ve spent there as a camper, but I never imagined that its unique nature and pleasant atmosphere would impart such invaluable wisdom. This quiet and seemingly insignificant breadth of woods and field, tucked away amongst the encompassing depths of central Missouri, gave me an abundance of clarity on the exceeding importance of humility, service to others, and a bit of hard work in the composition of effective stewardship. Before becoming a part of the Summer staff at Turkey Hill, I was often impressed at the smooth and continuous operation of the camp week after week, being that it was…

Salt water really did taste like… well, salt water. If the water got in your eyes, it didn’t burn as much compared to chlorine. Even in the air, you could taste the traces of salt. I wouldn’t have been surprised if there was a french fry joint somewhere nearby because the salt mixture was making me hungry. And apparently, the salt water made for a good exfoliator, which explained why my skin was so smooth afterwards.…

The Wyoming backcountry is stunning. There is an infinite blanket of trees in every direction. The sky has two moods either happy: blue with cotton ball clouds or angry: a stormy scary black color. The air smells like sage and pine -- fresh and crisp. A city with an area measuring 3,255 miles squared and lying on the Gastineau Channel, Juneau, Alaska captured my breath and left me speechless. For some Juneau is a venue to buy trinkets and take family pictures for the Christmas card. For others Juneau is a place to hunt vicious black bears or reel in an Artic Char. For me Juneau, Alaska is significant for it allowed me to strengthen in my faith and believe God created the Earth we live on. Foremost, the sky was foggy, and the air was chilly, with a brisk wind blowing around.…
