Waking up to the beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, over four thousand miles away from home, and a six hour time difference. With my circadian rhythm out of sync, the excitement of new adventures and exploring the island world. Kauai, Hawaii was my adventure and after visiting almost every beach on the island, I was still unsatisfied and need to see and experience more, a new goal to conquer.
Today would be filled with kayaking downstream in the Wailua River, to hike to Wailua Falls, and paddling upstream in the river. Stopping for a few scenic spots along the way to ensure seeing all of what the “Garden Island” has to offer.

Having left the waterfall we stopped at a shallow area of the river with a cliff great for jumping off of nearby.
In about five steps from the gravel covered shallow end, I stepped onto a trail. My family sat patiently in their kayaks, waiting for me to make my ascend up to the top of the cliff, to then make my descent back down to the water.
Unknowing the depth of the water below, I cautiously watched the few jump before me. My dad followed me up the trail and was right behind me. This added comfort and support made what I was now nervous and anxious to do much easier. I advanced toward the edge of the cliff, then stopped, closed my eyes and took a deep breath. I rationalized that I needed to trust that I would make it to the water safely just like those before me had. Finally, I took my leap of faith and jumped right into the water. Coming up from the water I felt proud and accomplished.
The next adventure in my life is college; I might go far from home, but I want to explore and learn. I will have my family’s support, which means so much to me in this leap of faith into college, trusting something so monumental as determining my
