Tall pine trees that surrounded the water reached up and licked the sky, and the smell of pine mingled in the air with the chlorine from the pool. Jada loved to spend time laying on the driveway at night, because this driveway was not like many others. With the house situated on the hill, it inclined 45 degrees and the summer sun warmed it to a comfortable temperature. She'd sit on the warmed concrete, in pajamas and wet hair, and recline backwards. The curve of the driveway angled toward the moon, and the moon looked huge from this perspective, looming just over the pine trees and reflecting in the pond. It was a time of peace and solitude away from her sister and brother, from her mother and father. It was in this place that she could think about Brody's shoulders and not think about the unpleasantness inside the house.
