Eternity

Eternity, a word that I have never really thought about before-- that was, of course, before today. I gripped the rigid metal that barely held me above my death, sweat dripping off of my face. Blood seeped from the deep wound that scared my hands from holding the sharp strip that jutted out from the rocky wall of the ravine, the only thing separating me from my death. I contemplated my fate. I could either keep clenching onto the handhold, or I could submit to my death and let go. I decide against the latter, no matter how cruel surviving was, it was against my nature to give in. I carefully evaluated my surroundings. The mist and fog churned and twisted below, it was almost mesmerizing to watch it swirl and wind into the vast chasm.

One does not fully understand what eternity is until one is faced with it. I mulled this over while I fell. A concept that I had not quite gripped was falling. The word “fall”, implies that there would be something to eventually fall onto. Now, I was falling into nothing. Just falling, not colliding with anything. I wondered if I would be stuck like this always. I could feel the wind whirling against me and whooshing in my ears. Much to my dismay, my favorite green jacket had been snatched up by the wind current when I let go of the sharp steel. Now, I was missing the warm sanctuary of my coat, as the cold wind beat my goosebumped skin. Hmm, how long have I been falling? I calculated perhaps an hour had passed. It was quite boring, falling. There was just darkness, air, and cold. Suddenly, I was engulfed by the softest substance I have ever encountered. I could not fathom what it was. Warmth! I felt warmth! My freezing skin tingled with warmth! Then, there was a bright light. I shut my eyes tight, and my hands flew to cover them. Gradually, I opened my eyes. I saw the blue sky and the blinding sun-- NO, not sun, suns. There were three. Shakily, I got to my feet and peered around me nervously. I was in a meadow. Behind me was an apple tree. I sat at the foot of the tree and tried to grasp what had just happened. I was falling a-and then I …show more content…
I leapt to my feet. Had I been talking aloud?

“WHO ARE YOU?” My scratchy voice screamed.

“The fitting question, is who are you? Beside, this is my father’s field.” the stranger exclaimed.

“Where am I?” I almost wailed.

The stranger bent over laughing. When he looked up and saw the puzzled look on my face, he ceased immediately.

“Wow, you really aren’t kidding.” he said as he clapped me on the

The White Mountains are a completely different animal than the Appalachian Mountains. Even so, as I hiked up Craggy Gardens off of the Blue Ridge Parkway just outside of Asheville, North Carolina a couple of days ago, I was forced to remember the first stretch of the Presidential Traverse in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. The climb was gradual at first, but steady, with a low hanging forest and a stream running not far off the trail. Not 10 minutes in I was having thoughts akin to, “Oh my god, what did I sign up for?” and, “I’m not going to be able to do this for days; this is already too strenuous.”…

1 Being a marshmallow, Marvin never got out much. It became customary for all of the foods of {the buffet} to stick with their kind, and not leave their designated area. The Montrose Precipice I It all went back to the summer of 1932 when tragedy struck; its affect was wide-spread in the community, most of it at least. I knew something was horribly wrong when I woke up on a lemon shaped inner-tube in a sea of squishy macaroni and cheese. Ever since I was little, the smell, texture, and pretty much everything about macaroni and cheese disgusted me. Cheese was meant to be sprinkled on top of noodles, not engulf them. Looking around at the yellow encrusted rocks and the velveeta cheese waterfalls, I felt like I was living a real life nightmare. Just over the ledge I could see what appeared to be a giant drop off.…

The Argument for the Immortality of the Soul When Socrates and Meno are halted in their argument by a paradox, Socrates proposes a new idea that will solve the paradox and continue their conversation. He states that the soul is immortal and it has learned everything in past lives. Thus, what men call learning is actually a process of recollection. I will first be giving context as to how this idea came into the dialogue with Meno. Next, I will explain how he puts the same idea forward in Phaedo and then noting the differences between the two dialogues.…

Is there life after death? John Carter thought idly, leaning against the high brass railings of the rooftop restaurant.
