I breathed in the fresh air and said to myself, ”This is what Hawaii smells like.”
This was because I was in Hawaii. My whole family stumbled out of the rental car, my mom, dad, and my brother, all looked as if they had just been run over by a stampede of buffalo. I kicked up a spray of sand as I jogged down the sandy slope to the ocean. As I got near the ocean, the waves washed up to my ankles, and retreated as quickly as they had come. As I walked down the beach, I realized that there were these small little holes, where the sea didn’t wash up to. I never knew there were holes on some beaches I thought. As I looked down one hole, all I saw was the sand of the walls and darkness throughout the peculiar tunnel. But then, out of the blue, I saw a flicker of movement inside of the mysterious hole. I learned that if you’re having trouble with something, you can always ask someone older than you, because they may know something that you don’t. I will always think back to that day on the beach, with the warm breeze and the rolling waves on the shore. I will always remember the wet sand beneath my feet. I will always remember my dad’s words and my family’s faith in me. I will remember the abundance of holes in the ground. Finally, I will remember, staring into the piercing eyes of the crab, and remember the look in it’s eyes that I never
