As soon as the music behind my float started playing, people began cheering. The music was loud composed of tubas, clarinets, trombones, trumpets, and a large bass drum with a cymbal on top. Next to the band, there was the image of virgin mary that is in the town’s largest church. It was being carried by four men and they where each holding a piece of the wood stand on their shoulder. As they waltzed their way through the parade, people would come near it and some began to cry. I did not understand why it would upset people at the time, but now I realize it was a symbol of hope for many that have prayed for miracles. Being part of this parade allowed me to develop a heightened awareness and perspective of the community I was in. I realized how united my community was and the hope they instilled in their religion. It is an experience and feeling that only happens when I am in Mexico, I have not experienced this anywhere else; it is why I find these small communities with these traditions, so special and
