Pigeons: A Short Story

Stepping outside of the dimly lit and grand cathedral, I immediately noticed three things. The first was the blinding sunlight that hit my face with such force it brought tears to my eyes. The colossal amount of people crowding every inch of the Duomo Plaza caught my attention second. Just half an hour ago I had walked into a nearly vacant area, but now it bustled with people coming and going from all over the world. Lastly, I saw pigeons in every direction. When they finished, they glanced up at us, asking for more, but once they realized we had given them all we had, they quickly dispersed into other areas. Promptly thanking the men, my mom took my sister’s hand and tried to steer us away again. Once more, they blocked us. The first time, they wanted us to feed pigeons, a seemingly simple and even generous gesture. What did they want this

The words “house” and “home” are often used interchangeably, yet they have vastly different connotations. A house draws the mental image of a physical shelter designed to accommodate people. Home, however, is a less tangible term, as it can refer to both a physical place or immaterial things associated with comfort or security. While house is not always synonymous with home, the physical and nonphysical sense of home can be explored by examining the fixtures in a household setting. In observing household settings in films, viewers can better understand how the characters, filmmakers, and society interpret the home.…

After the long flight I just wanted to lay down and rest, but my dad thought it would be a wonderful idea to go out into the city and explore some of the many different places. Groaning and dragging my feet along with shoulders hunched forward I followed my eager parents into a place that I had never been before. The hustle and bustle of the day was all around me, and the amount of people who were walking throughout the streets and the sidewalk was astounding. About five minutes into the walk a loud noise boomed throughout the entire city chanting words in a language I had never heard before.…

It shone down brightly, warming my skin and glimmering off the glass of the skyscrapers in the near distance. I watched the people from the city enter the park and watched as their city attitudes give way to the magical ambiance of the park.
