Personal Narrative: My Neighbor Totoro

Imagination. What are kids without it? They make their own world up, they appreciate what is in it, and always want to learn something new about it. Without imagination they would just see the world as another day, not as a day as their own making it different every day. That is exactly what Mei and Satuski did. They lived on a big land did not have much but they had the best time with their imagination. That is “My neighbor Totoro” is one of my favorite films to watch.
My Neighbor Totoro might have had no plot, but the storyline was very heartwarming. It made you remember your childhood when you had imaginary friends or animals that would come visit you at the dinner table, came lay in bed with you when you were scared in your bedroom at

It was easier to just go along with it and understand what was going on with it. In our generation every movie we can predict what is going to happen with the rising and falling action because it always happens, but in “my neighbor Totoro” never had one so initially you never knew what was going to happen. You wanted to watch it to see if there was ever going to be one, even though there was never one. Hayao Miyazaki says “you could call it a ghost story.” It was a hard review but it is true because the movie did not have any scenes that really captured your attention and made you get into it. But that did not bother me. It was very easy for me to watch and see all of the imagination going on, and seeing the girls enjoying every day and it was also easy for me to follow along with everything. I got to really enjoy watching it and listen to the joy, and the humor of …show more content…
I can relate Mei and Satuski when they get excited seeing Totoro or always calling him if the needed help, and him always being there. I remember I would do that all the time and it was always a great feeling because being a kid I never felt alone, I never felt like my parents wanted me to stop using my imagination because there is nothing wrong with it, it helps us kids to only see the good. Even though now in our generation parents do not really let kids have imaginary friends they need to realize it will help them open up, it will help them see and appreciate the little things in the world.
I will always love this film, even though it had no plot as people would say but I will love the lessons it gave: Your imagination is very important, When evil is within. It will leave once they see that there is good, That family is and will always will be the most important thing in your life forever, so do not take it for granted, and see the goodness in them, and trust. I did not think a movie like this would capture me in so tight but it did for sure and I would recommend it to anyone who asked

Where as I normally end up arguing against why a film should be considered a horror film, this time I'm going other way and argue why Lightning Bug is a Horror film. As I stated in Horror, My Definition, a Horror film is a film that used dread and horror, while trying to evoke negative emotions. Lightning Bug does that for me, upon first viewing I wasn't that impressed and disregarded is horror elements. Instead focusing on how its a Coming of Age Drama. But after viewing the film never really settled and has passed through my mind on several occasions and when I reflect on the film it's dark and haunting undertones that remain.…

In the Seventies, the fifteen years old troublemaker and leader altar boy Tim Sullivan and his three great friends, Francis Doyle, Wade Scalisi and Joey Anderson, study in a repressive Catholic school, and they hate their nun-teacher Sister Assumpta. Life is seemingly going smoothly for Riley and her emotions.…
