Maria Menendez Application Essay My life, there is no simple explanation as to what has led me to this journey. How should I start; Born in Cuba Immigrated to Spain where my life there was quite a Challenge, as a student in a convent turned into an all girl’s school. My ideas were challenged daily by religion, hunger, abuse, poverty, dictatorship and yet Interesting enough I would not change my childhood in any way since it has made me the Person I am today. I clearly recall one winter early in the morning very cold and snowing, so damp it hurt; My mother’s to walk with me such a long way to and from school. We were Taught in Spanish and homework was in English Outrageous I felt totally out of place I did not understand what was happening and then it hit me I was just being used as an experiment a statistic. I had a long talk with my mother and demanded that she would go and take me out of that embarrassing program. That was not easy with the school board since they were convinced that bilingual education was the way to go. How totally wrong they were in my book. I never realized how many turns my life would take all through my years in middle school as well as High School. I learned so much and this caused my life goals to be more confusing, I started making good money without a degree making my decision to go to school less important. Always holding professional jobs without a degree was in a way a curse since it made school secondary when it should have been my number one priority. It was not until much later in life that I realized how important that little piece of paper is not only for a great job, but for self fulfillment. …show more content…
I dedicated my life to social services, as well as Positions, in the medical field. I have helped the homeless, the addicts, victims of the slave trade, Refugees from many countries, ex offender, HIV clients, to some others I care not to Discuss. This long road has been also a personal battle losing my very long marriage to An invisible mistress as I like to call it. Drugs how could I fight something I can’t see Well this is where I realized I needed a counselor, faith someone that could help me not only mentally, but spiritually as well. I realized this is the time for me the time I need to fill that void in my life with a faith oriented Institution and go back to my roots. I know my career is the correct one Psychology is something I have been doing for years Listening counseling guiding and helping nothing will give me more pleasure than to be Able to do it with a title
