Descriptive Essay About Marching Band

“You may take the field for competition.” Marching band has always been something I wanted to do since I entered North Middle School band. When I first signed up to be in the ‘Rebel Pride’ marching Band at Franklin County High School, I had no idea what that year would have in store for me. ‘Will I fit in?’ ‘Will anyone like me?’ Those were all questions I asked myself. I can honestly say that the four years I was in marching band was the time of great learning and discovery of myself and the people around me. My senior year was by far the most exciting and memorable part of marching band. I know everyone and I was getting to know the freshman and making them feel welcome, just like the seniors did to me on my first day. Some of my favorite …show more content…
There is always a lot crossing your mind when you are about to get on the field for halftime to perform. It’s always nerve racking to know that you have to be right in line or that you not only have to stay in step but also remember your music. Mr. Isbell always makes us feel great because he reminds us that we are most certainly not perfect, but that we are hard workers who have done a lot this summer getting ready for the show. He also told us, we need to have with what we have learned. I also need to mention that just because school had already started back didn’t mean we got to go home right after. We were usually there until six every night preparing ourselves for competition. Our main goal was to make Mr. Isbell happy about our performance. Towards September, it’s time to get more serious than ever. It’s competition day. If the ball games make you nervous, just imagine how this would make you feel. Performing at a football game and performing at competitions are extremely different in so many ways. At football games, you can perform and make one little mistake and no one will ever know; at competitions, if you bobble one time, you are in big trouble. We usually do tow competitions so it gives us time to make changes to anything that needs to be …show more content…
If there are parts in the show where do a certain move on, we practice the move on the count it’s supposed to happen on. People do forget during practice to mark time which is fine as long as they don’t forget to do it on the field. After we do a quick run through of the music we had to get lined up, it’s literally show time. Form the time we enter the field, until the time we leave, we are being graded on our show. We enter the field and I hear the judges talking, but my thoughts are overpowering what they are saying. ‘Don’t forget to turn on count one.’ I didn’t want to mess up and disappoint my band family. When the competition was over I was very relieved, and proud of myself. All my hard work during band camp paid off. It was a great show. We might not have won first place but we did a wonderful job. The saddest part of band is senior night. It’s not just sad for me, but it’s sad for my friends too. You create a special friendship with the members and when you have to leave, all you can do is come back to visit and remind them that they are the next seniors and they have to show the freshman next year how we do it around here. I do know of some people who have quit band because their friends had graduated, but I believe we get ourselves prepared for adulthood when we continue something without our friends. I have never forgotten my younger

Throughout my high school career, the Liberty Benton music department has helped shape the person I’ve become. Without the band I would have had a much harder time making friends and adjusting to a new school freshman year. I owe a lot of my confidence in leadership skills to my positions within the band. Throughout high school people in the band truly became some of my best friends. Without them I would not be the person I am today and without band I would have never met these people.…
