Dragons’ Adaptive Strategies in the Iron Islands. With just four species of dragons of the eighteen that live on the continent of Westeros, the Iron islands possess a variety of niches were these species thrive without being adapted to the same island as the others as all the populations became isolated not by space (as dragons can fly) but by habitat (different resources); also, these dragons are the best example of the adaptive radiation process as a common ancestor species from Westeros established in the different islands and each of the groups adapted to a specific island. One possible explanation to why this process started on different dragons in the islands is based on Gause’s principle of competitive exclusion as two species that have…

The representation of past cultures in modernity is one that is repeatedly problematic. More specifically, the image of the Scandinavian settlers that expanded into the British Isles in the late 8th century has received much of this treatment. Today, these people are commonly known as ‘Vikings’ and a fair amount of misrepresentation accompanies the term. This stereotype of the Scandinavians paints them as a brutish and uncultured group of people that terrorised the coasts of the British Isles without purpose. Media is perhaps the most susceptible to this image as is seen in television such as BBC’s children show Mike the Knight.…

Today I was excited to see if my group would enjoy the book, “Where the Wild Things Are,” due to the fact everyone agreed they enjoy reading adventure books. Consequently, one of my group members, Jose, had already read the book and watched the movie and let the whole group know it was “boring.” Already bored he instantly lost interest in the book and the group and was making it known by distracting the other group members around him. Usually his partner in crime, Gilbert, agrees with him and goes along with him but this time was different and he ignored his friend because he was actually…
