In the book “Tastes Like Cuba” Machado uses recipes and the discussion of food to evoke his longing for his homeland. Machado and his families are from Cuba before the Cuban Revolution. During that time, they supported Fidel Castro in overthrowing Fulgencio Batista. When Fidel Castro took power, Machado’s grandfather’s bus company was also taken away from him and because of that their family supported in United State to overthrow Fidel Castro which failed (Machado 46).
