Essay On Camp Longhorn

For the past 6 years of my life, I have gone to a sleepaway camp in Burnet, TX called Camp Longhorn Inks Lake. There are many enjoyable traditions at Camp Longhorn. Some of the\ traditions are the mile swim, campfire lighter, early bird, fun day, frog girl day, and marine/marina mud. Although these traditions are great fun, but none of them can compare to the most memorable tradition at Camp Longhorn, Church Mountain. Church Mountain is my favorite tradition at Camp Longhorn and my life has been infinitely changed by the experiences I have had up there.
The hike up to Church Mountain is my favorite! Even though we are not allowed to talk on the way up, I hear so many other sounds it’s like people are chatting amongst each other. The rumble

This past year a boy counselor made a statement that really stood out to me during his speech. He said, “I think you make better friends without the internet”. This made me realize how lucky I am to have grown up along my camp friends without a cellphone. The connection I have with my camp friends is so much deeper than my school friends. If I get bored in the cabin, me and my camp friends can think of fun things to do. Like jumping off our water cabin into the lake to shower or having a tetherball tournament before chow. When I’m with my school friends, the first thing any of us turn to when we are bored is our cellphones. The next speakers were two girl counselors who were sisters. They talked about how going to Camp Longhorn along with their younger sister, who was still a camper at the time, has impacted their family. I felt that their story was so relatable to my family camp experience. My eldest sister, Faris, joined Camp Longhorn in 2005, them my middle sister,Elle, joined Camp Longhorn in 2009, and the finally I joined Camp Longhorn in 2012. We all went to Camp together for the next 4 years! In 2016, Faris had to leave for college the day after we left for camp. It was really hard not having my big sister at camp with me, but at least I had

The Battle of Bull Run occurred from August 28th, 1862 to August 30th, 1862 in Prince William County, Virginia near Manassas, Virginia (which is how it got its name). The Commanding officer of the Union was John Pope while General Robert E. Lee led the Confederates. It all started when General “Stonewall” Jackson attacked a Union force at Brawner’s Farm which ended up getting Pope’s attention, but ended in a draw . Meanwhile, General James Longstreet successfully beat a Union force at the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap and proceeded to join up with Jackson at Stony Ridge where Jackson happened to be waiting for him. Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be in the wild? Do you envision dangerous animals and food cooked over a fire you had to build? One way that you can have that experience is by camping on a nature preserve or at a large lake. I have camped many times while growing up but the two places I remember the most would be Wichita Mountains or Lake DeGrey. Both of the places are places that people can go camping at if they are looking to get out of the city.…

Most teenagers would probably tell you that the beginning of their adulthood was marked by having to do laundry for the first time, or being able to drive alone, or perhaps no longer sitting at the children's table at family events. But for me, it happened this past summer, when I made the very difficult decision that I would not return to Coleman Country Day Camp. To those who were not fortunate enough to have grown up at summer camp, this might not seem like such a big decision to make. But Coleman was my outlet, my second home for ten consecutive summers and spending those two months anywhere else seemed inconceivable to me.…

Racism was an immense problem in the American South during the 1930s and still is in America today. In the PBS American Experience: An American Tragedy, it is clearly shown. The blacks were mistreated because of their color and their class. From the time the nine black boys got on the train they were already at a disadvantage because of their race. Scottsboro was clearly a tragedy that will never be forgotten.…

Thanks the Texas Exes alumni, I was able to go to Camp Texas for free this year. At first I thought that it was like any normal 3- day camping trip, which made me extremely excited since I enjoy camping very much. Once I got there, I realized that it was a different type of camp. I was nervous and scared because I’m not very good at socializing. The reason I’m writing this is because I learned so much about being open minded, accepting, and kind to other people and new experiences.…
