Walk off. The most exciting play in baseball. The second the walk off ends, the game does subsequently, the only thing left to do is look back on how exciting the game was and of course, walk off the field...
We’ve been taken out to the ballgame, we’ve eaten all the peanuts and crackerjack, we’ve root-root-rooted for the home team, and now the baseball season of 2012 was coming to an end. Lodi was coming to town. A team thinking back to the last time we played, they left the diamond on top 17-3. “Last game of the season tonight boys, be ready, Lodi is coming,” Coach Rusty said half encouraging and half warning his squad, as he also knew the challenge ahead of us tonight. Our team was ready to give the season one last “Hoorah” before school

My stomach feels as if it’s in my throat, the game rested in my hands. I square around to bunt holding the bat out in front of the plate. I have to bunt, I have to bunt, if I miss the ball, our winning run is out for sure. I stare down the ball, as if I can see it’s red laces’ every rotation, the world is silent for half a second. . . PING! I got it, I got the ball, but now I’m off for first. My mind is racing faster than my feet carrying me to first. I’m almost there, springing off my toes with every bound, I hear cheers. Oh no not cheers. I still can’t turn my head, what if those are Lodi cheers? What if they tagged out our winning run and I just got our man on third out? What if I just won the game? The anticipation is burning my chest. I burst through the bag and turn around to look at home plate. I whip my head around, not only do I see our runner stomp on home plate with his hands raised in the air, I see my teammates rush out to half celebrate half mob me on the field. I see Lodi fielders standing where my perfectly placed bunt laid. Hoots and hollers fill my ears, my anxiousness inside of me only 5sec ago is instantaneously turned into joy. We won, we avenged ourselves, in walk off
