Personal Narrative: Balloon

Children typically have a favorite toy, stuffed animal, or blanket. For me, that is my care bear named Balloon. Balloon is light blue with a white stomach that has a red balloon, which is how she got her name. When I was younger, my mother won her for me at a carnival. Since my mother won her for me, I used to think of Balloon as a connection to my mother whenever either one of us were not home. I always slept with her and took her with me whenever I had a sleepover. Whenever I had a sleepover, or my mom was working late and I was going to sleep before she got home, I would tell Balloon goodnight as if my mother could hear me through her. I have loved this bear for many years. Balloon is my VIP because she comforts me, is something that I can talk to when I cannot talk to anyone else, and is always around to be there …show more content…
Most of the time, she is sitting in my bed, so if I want to see her, I can just go up to my room. I take her with me to sleepovers for comfort, and to make sure that she is still with me. I am kind of surprised that neither one of the two dogs my family has had, has ripped her yet, especially the new puppy. I am protective of my care bear because I want her to be around with me forever. For now, I usually know where she is and that she is safe. I do not know what I would do if I ever lost her or she was ever taken or destroyed, because she is a big part of my life. My care bear, Balloon, is very important to me because she comforts when I need it, is something that I have great talks with, and will be around and close for a long time. Balloon is very comforting when I am sad and scared. I also talk to her a lot about my problems and my feelings. I plan to have her around for many more years. Balloon may be frayed, have some stains, and her tag may be almost gone, but she is my forever VIP. She started off as a care bear from a carnival, but through the years, she has become so much

There were several moves and vacations over the years, each one requiring my baby blanket to be by my side. My dad eventually refers to me as Linus from the Peanuts, always touting my blanket over my shoulder or cradled in my arms. I bring it to every “show and tell” at school, not to mention any naptimes that were offered in preschool. Sleep-overs and camping excursions just weren’t the same without my blanket in tow. It was a slice of home I could hold close to my heart when need be and throw to the side when I felt ready to explore the world around me.…
