Personal Narrative: A Day At Munising

Improved Essays
It was a sunny summer day and the weather was perfect for any outdoor activities. We were at Munising Tourist Park right outside Munising. It was me, my mom, my sister, my step brother John, step sister Piper, the two dogs, and my step dad Dave. We have been to this campground many times before and have loved it every single time. Its right on superior and there is a huge open beach. The water is always crystal clear and very cold. This place for me always stood out for the fact that once you go to about chest deep into the water. It drops. Imagine standing on the edge of the world. To your right, you have the sandy ground with small rocks and you can see your feet kicking to keep yourself afloat. Now to your left, is nothing. You see the steep drop of sand into a black pit swallowing all the light entering it. It’s as if you could swim down as much as possible and never reach the bottom. My sister and I would always have the challenge of whoever could swim out the farthest over the black and blue abyss. I was younger and was very scared of water so my sister would steal my goggles and usually swim out the farthest. She scared the hell out of me. After swimming, we would dry off and sit down in our lawn chairs and either make pudgie pies or hot dogs on the fire. …show more content…
My mom would always grab me a pasty from the autrain gas station and cook them over the fire also. While we sit around the fire eating out snacks, I look out across lake superior. It was like a professional photo with moving trees and shimmering water. The shining sun glistening off the top of the water dancing like fire. Looking across to the island with the many trees scattered across the land like stubble on an old man's beard. This was the sight people dream to have. After some time, I look to the left and notice something very strange happening on the water. It looked as if there was a wall or cloud moving very quickly over the top of the water. I hear the sound almost like animal howling right in front of me. This loud high pitch whine that sends chills down even the devil's spine. I look to my mom with a very confused look and look back out towards the water and realize that mysterious wall of water was getting closer and closer now. The sound getting louder every second. It hit us like a train. It was almost as if the entire sky opened up and was showering us in a hellfire of heavy raindrops. The rain was hitting me from every angle. Out of everything, my mind focused on what was in the tent. I got up and sprinted to our tent and jumped in to avoid the wind and rain. The walls of the tent were caving in, bending and folding inward on top of me and I debated if I was safer inside or outside. My sister, stepbrother, and stepsister came running in also. My mom and Dave ran to shut their windows on their cars and were going to make it back to us but before we knew it, our tent caved in on one side and we knew we couldn't stay there. I grabbed my ipod and grabbed whatever electronics I could and jumped out the tent and ran to my moms car. I threw everything inside and was going to make my way back for another run but when I turned around to make my way back to the tent, I see Dave's blue sleeping mat flying thru the air with John close behind it. I chuckled at how funny this all was. One second everyone was fine and happy the next it's like we're inside a hurricane. The thing that happened next will be cemented in my mind for as long as I live. I turned back towards our tent for a split second and it was like everything around me froze. No raindrops fell for what seemed like minutes. I stood there just watching this huge red mass crawling its way across the

At night in the summertime it is even more peaceful and the scents and air are different. The air feels warm yet breezy and filled with the scent of pine trees and bark. The water feels a bit warmer because the sun has been beating on it all day. You can’t really see anything below you, and that’s what makes it awesome because it creates a sense of curiosity, but a bit freaky at the same time. Laying on my back in the water and looking up at the stars and the moon, is just a pretty sight.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

It was a scorching summer afternoon around three o’ clock PM at J.D Redd Park. I was anxiously waiting in third base for the batter to approach the plate and smack the yarn covered ball just enough for me to make it to the home plate. As the sun hits my face I see the pitcher retract his right arm getting ready to throw it. As I see the ball leave the pitcher’s hand, I breathed in the humid air, making preparations to sprint as fast as I could and make it to the home plate. Before I could even gather my thoughts the ball departed from the pitcher’s hand and into the bat of one of the members of my team.…
