Descriptive Essay: A Hockey Team

Hockey in the desert Ice hockey is a sport almost unheard of in the city of Tucson, Arizona. There is the local college team, the Wildcats, but aside from that you have to drive through the middle of a scorching desert to get to the nearest city with an ice rink. And then of course there is me. Hockey is a big hobby of mine, and sadly I was unfortunate enough to grow up in the middle of a desert where hockey is not a big part of the culture. But that wasn’t going to stop me. My goal was to get good enough so that I could comfortably play a game against some other team. After countless sessions of driveway hockey, a group of neighborhood kids and I decided to take the initiative and try to join a hockey team. The only ice rink in Tucson is …show more content…
When we all arrived both teams gathered, and that’s where we got our first view of our opponents. Most of them were normal looking and we look about equal. When everybody had arrived we entered the arena and descended down to ice level where we had our “locker rooms”. These “locker rooms” were made up of curtains with chairs set up in the hallways. The actual locker rooms had NHL players undressing after their morning skate. Once everyone had laced up their skates we were ready to enter the rink. We walked to the door in excitement. I stepped on the fresh sheet of Ice and took in my surroundings. The rink was surrounded by rows of descending maroons seats, and standing in the center of it all was surreal. After warm ups we were ready to start the game. The puck was dropped at the face off and right of the bat, one of our players snipes the puck right past the goalie and our team is on the board early. Later on the other team answers with two goals, and although we scored a few more goals we never came back to get the lead. The final score was 5-3. Although it was disappointing, it was also very exciting and
