It was made to hold political prisoners of the third reich but it didn't.The first buildings in the Dachau concentration camp complex consisted of the remnants of an old WWI munitions factory that was located in the northeastern portion of the town. These buildings held around 5,000 prisoners. They were the main camp until 1937 when the prisoners were forced to tear down the old buildings and build new ones to expand the camp.
