Reflection
Initially, on both days my group met in the lobby of the hospital and then followed our instructor to the third floor, where we would wait for the nurses to give shift report. My partner and myself; frantically scribbled everything down, as the nurses spoke quickly and gave an abundance of information. As my partner and I compared notes with each other, helping each other accomplish our goals. We introduce ourselves to …show more content…
I gave insulin shots and performed Accu-Chek. I also got to document in the electronic health record.
Influencing Factors Before going into clinical, I had went to the hospital the day prior to look up my client’s information, including; the lab values, vital signs, diagnoses, and medications to gather information to understand their disease processes and what the medications were used for. Competency # 6 - Exhibits Caring to Facilitate Holistic Well-Being for Recipients of Nursing Care: I met this competency by acknowledging my weaknesses and areas of improvement. I want my clients to know they are in safe hands, I can do this by improving my syringe, and needle withdraws and mental math through continuous practice.
Competency # 7 – Uses Effective Communication Skills: Nursing students like myself, must be able to communicate with not only their client, but also all their coworkers.
Competency # 10 – Demonstrates Professional Behaviors: I must comply with the rules and regulations set forth by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). I honored this code and performed professionally by concealing the identity of my classmates and my instructors. A professional in the nursing world conceals their patients’ rights of confidentiality and to know exactly why, what, when, and how I am going to perform a procedure and what to expect. I demonstrated competency #10 by following the University of NC at Pembroke’s and Nursing Department policies. I came to clinical dressed according to policy requirement and was at lab on time with my hair up and identification
