Objectives of the session/contact: To understand a problem a parent (Ms. Lopez, mother of student within the school) was dealing with at home, and wanted her son (student of Emerson) to talk to School Social Worker on how he feels about what has happened within the mother and son’s family.
Individuals at meeting: School Social Worker (field supervisor), MSW Intern (myself), and Ms. Lopez (mother).
Previous to the meeting: Ms. Lopez entered the Emerson School office in the morning wanting to speak to the School Social Worker. This was an unplanned meeting that to place at the start of school for the students and staff.
Start of meeting: Ms. Lopez started speaking to my supervisor on account of what has happened with her family. My supervisor introduced herself to Ms. Lopez, and agreed to speak with her in a more private setting. Supervisor introduced who I am, as her Social Work Intern, and wanted to know if it was fine for me to attend their meeting. Lopez and my supervisor, I was confused and surprised on what was stated within the meeting. It was confusing at different parts of Ms. Lopez’s story when she was explaining, and when Social Worker was asking her question. When observing Ms. Lopez, it seemed as though she desperate for help, and so much was going on within her family whereas she got unanswered question when trying to see her daughter. She was also concerned about her son on how he feels on their current situation. Another thing is, while still observing, my supervisor was confused as to what was being said by Ms. Lopez. When given the opportunity, supervisor was able to ask questions to fully understand her family
