In addition, there are numerous subscales that include 15 supplementary scales, 28 Harris-Lingoes subscales, 3 social introversion scales, and 27 component scales (Ben-Porath, 2007). Scoring the scales has been reported as rather simple, but interpretation of the scores is much more challenging. Reliability measures for the MMPI-2, specifically for test-retest reliability had a wide range. Test-retest measures were based off of 193 members of the normative sample who took the test twice within one week. The correlations ranged from .53-.90, with the majority falling above .70 (Archer, 2014). Overall, these scores were generally acceptable. Of the validity scales previously measured, several were carried over from the previous test, but some were developed for the new version as well. New validity scales included the F-b scale, which consists of infrequently endorsed items that occur in the latter stages of the test booklet (Archer, 2014). Other added scales included the VIRN and TRIN, which are inconsistency scales that allow the administrator to determine how inconsistent the test taker was with their responses (Archer, 2014). As for the MMPI-2 content scales, they employ a deductive scale construction method. This method combines the use of theoretical, rational, and empirical criteria to construct these measures (Archer, 2014). Having used the deductive …show more content…
Of the many different forms of psychological tests, personality tests are among the most important and useful on an individual and societal level. Personality tests are used to uncover and identify individual characteristics about the person taking the test, and they are typically used in numerous settings. The Rorschach Ink Blot test is one of the original personality tests that has received copious amounts of research and use since its incubation. Likewise, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator is another unique personality test that seeks to capture Jungian personality types. In addition, the MBTI is another well-known test that has implications of applicability in numerous areas. Along with the Rorschach and the MBTI, the MMPI-2 has been one of the most used, researched, and popular personality tests since the 1940s. While questions are still asked about the general utility of the test, it has proved to be highly effective for educated adults, and remains one of the most popular personality
