Describe Your Greatest Strength

My greatest strength is Standard 3A, “Recruits, selects, mentors, and retain faculty and staff to accomplish school system goals” (Alabama State Department of Education [ALSDE] 2013, p. 8). For 15 years of my educational career as a workforce coordinator, recruiting workers was my passion. I successfully met the needs of employers and assisted students in obtaining valuable employability skills. Some of my students retained their positions throughout their collegiate endeavors. Many needed employment to help their families. Some just wanted to get out of school early. Regardless, it was a win-win for everyone, employers, students, labor market and humbling to me to make a difference.. Standards 3 B & C were my second greatest strength. I get my strength from my parents, they push me to do my best. Trying out for drill team wasn't my priority at the end of last year, but my parents pushed me to try out and I made it. Later that month I wanted to quit because it “wasn't for me” after I informed my mom of the decision I made she told me I wasn't allowed to drop out because i took the spot of another girl and it was unfair for the other girls who tried out. She made me understand the importance of working with the other girls, and what it means to be apart of a team. Without her advice I would have quit; she knew that I had the strength in me and wanted me to show my true potential.…

As we had discussed in class, strengths and weaknesses are internal characteristics that affect the way we approach different situation and problems, whereas opportunities and threats are external forces that we may have no control over but may also be influenced by our strengths and weaknesses.
