As I am maturing, I am becoming acquainted with the idea of giving back. I am working on incorporating more community service as one of my goals. Most of my community service has been based around tutoring younger peers. I like to help children understand that they are smarter than they assume to be, and I enjoy being their inspiration. Even though I have not done as much as I could have, I have made it a goal to help the community more. Community service opened my eyes more to the idea that there are people with many more needs and struggles that I could never imagine to endeavor. My compassion towards others is reflected while I enjoy the idea that I am improving and influencing someone’s life without expecting anything in return except a smile. An example would be making the sandwiches for Calvary Refuge Center. Even though, I did not get to see them receive the sandwiches physically, I knew it made someone’s day to be relieved of hunger. I have had a dedication towards scholarship since elementary when I was invited to an honors program, QUEST. I have been apart of honors my entire educational career. I have also always been in the top percent of my class, without letting any distractions in the way of my goals. Having the will power to keep a 4.0 GPA, be a part of the Honors program, a member of the National Society of Leadership, and participate in extracurricular activities shows that I am ambitious, I have great work ethic, and that I can have multiple commitments. As I mature, I also recognize how important communication is in life. If you do not communicate, it is less likely to make it to the “next level”. Throughout life, I would be shy and concealed. These characteristics kept me back from networking and experiencing new things in life. Once I started to open up and communicate, opportunities that moved me towards my future career started happening (shadowing at local dental offices), I began to help others in fields I was skilled in such as academics, and I also got the courage to take leadership roles in extracurricular activities. I am still working on coming out of my shell, but I am aware that in college communicating and socializing with others can have major effects on my
