Describe The Classroom

11. Describe the students in the classroom:
In the last hour, the students cleaned up their tables after finishing their small group activities. They sat down on the rug in front of the smart board and had a discussion about the three activities they had just completed and all other things they had discussed so far about Texas. Ms. Parker showed them pictures of blue bonnets on the projector and the students were fascinated to see the, especially the girls who were choosing their favorite pictures. Students seemed energetic and aware that their day at school was about to end. They enjoyed their short restroom and snack time and were seen to be having a lot of fun later in the short physical activity.

The projector displayed blue bonnets on the smart board which was in clear view or all students. As I walked with the students and teachers to the restroom, the students proudly showed me their work displayed on the soft board outside their classroom. Snack was served to the students on their respective tables. Snack were mostly in zip lock bags, and had names written on them. I believe snacks were sent from home, since each student had a different snack with them. For the dance, students once again gathered in front of the white board and formed a circle with both the teachers. Ms. Parker and Ms. Cantoosh both showed the dance steps and the children followed them happily. This was the most cheerful part of the instructional day. In the end students were allowed to go to go to their centers. Some students chose to play in the Texas center. In this center (as discussed earlier in observation 6) students used the Texas related clothing (boots, cowboy hats, jackets, belts, stuffed horses for riding) and imitated being cowboys. It was interesting how a girl dressed up and stayed at home and pretended to cook for the boys who were riding horses. I got to see how pretend play can also be a learning opportunity for young

Seventh grade, my second year now at what I thought to be the worst school in the world. On back to school night I met a man who would change my perspective on life completely, that man being Brandon Lilly. Henry Adams once said “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” At a mere five-foot four he appeared to be a kid minus the burly lumberjack beard that he possessed. I remember being skeptical at first because I had never had a male teacher before.…

Walking into Kekionga Middle School I noticed a lot of differences from schools that I had visited previously. The most visible one being the school’s population and location. I had never observed at an urban school and have never felt such a cultural difference between me and the students. With a school population that was so diverse and not within the same background as I was, I immediately started thinking about my future teaching career and what I would do in that kind of atmosphere. I later on asked Mrs. Parker why she chose this school and said that it was because she went to Fort Wayne Community Schools all of her life, so she did not feel change at all.…

I am currently student teaching in a 4th grade classroom at Sunset Elementary under my master teach, Alissa Nakaji. Upon my first day, I instantly fell in love with the dynamics of the classroom. The classroom had colorful posters explaining rules, consequences, inspirational quotes, and a list of roles for each student (changed weekly). This classroom feels more like a community of students striving together to have an optimal learning experience instead of just one teacher demanding and controlling the students. It is very autonomous and the teacher is involved only when needed.…

The students in Mrs. Bunkers 2nd period class were students that did great in school and were taking advanced level classes. The students were not being challenged in class and did not want to do some of the regular things that Mrs. Bunker had them doing like reading the textbook. Miller in, The book Whisperer said “I have learned that students hunger for more information, beyond what their social studies textbooks offers if we go the extra mile to provide it” (Miller, 2009, p. 79). Providing additional text and information could encourage a student to learn more about the subject outside of the classroom and encourage a love for learning. Many students want to know how the information connects to their lives or how the information connects to society today.…

As the individual tables or desks are not provided for grade 1, the students were sitting on the chairs. At first, at the time of explanation, the students were arranged in the middle of the class as rows and represents their group. The following figure shows the class room arrangement. This arrangement helped students to read the board easily and the teacher can observe what they are doing which lead to reduce misbehaviours. Wannarka & Ruhl (2008) also stated that the arrangements in rows rather than groups can help students to be on task.…
