After a meeting last March between Mr. Stahl, John Bogert and you, some of us (Gail, Colleen, Carson, John, and I) discussed the proposal to create part-time CO II positions and concluded that it probably would not be feasible for several reasons. Recently, students assigned to SWRK 630 were given the task to select a current piece of proposed KY legislation that is of interest to the field of study and the social work profession. Students were also told to use the information from Schneider and Jansson’s books, choose pertinent information from reliable sources and develop a fact sheet on the positive effects of this proposed legislation on rural Kentuckians. Walter experiences the most change out of all the characters throughout the the play. Within social work practice various capabilities need to be demonstrated. According to the Professional Capabilities Framework (BASW, 2012), social workers must have the capacity to “use judgement and authority to individuals and families to promote independence and provide support” (PCF 7: Intervention and Skills), and within the Knowledge and Skills Statement, it is vital for social workers “to promote optimal child development and be alert to signs that may indicate otherwise”. An intervention’s success therefore relies on having the knowledge, skills and methods to do so.
