The pilgrimage routes impacted the Romanesque art and architecture by being visited and created by people from all over Europe. Pilgrims came from different locations, which increased the number of people coming and going to visit these churches and increase their interest in them. The painting “formality, symmetry, and placement of the figures are Byzantine, but the Spanish artist rejected Byzantine mosaic in favor of direct paintig on plaster-coated walls.” (Kleiner, Page. 356) The mural displays a clear representation of the number 7, which has an important meaning of the communities. In the image we can see Christ in the middle and the use of bring colors throughout the image.

4. Address the features of Chartres Cathedral (Figures 13-4 through 13-6; 13-12 through 13-19) that distinguish it as High Gothic architecture (note the earlier features as well). Be sure your discussion describes the flying buttresses and discusses specific examples of stained glass found at the cathedral.
The Chartres Cathedral was built using a variety of different techniques including the use of king and queens in the figures, which was a characteristic of Gothic art. We can also see artwork sculptures that represent different important events in the life of the Virgin and Christ. The Flying buttresses where decorations that were found on the outside of the church roofs in forms of arches which were very common during the Gothic era. Below the flying buttresses we would find the inclusion of the stained glass, which would reflect a beautiful image when the sunlight would strike the
