Sydney Mayer

It’s a new semester and we are about to meet so many new and interesting types of people, it might be overwhelming but just take it one person at a time. For instance I first met and got to know a little about Miss Sydney Mayer. With her only being 19, she is a very sweet, driven and happy person. She has lots of hobbies, a very small family and good moral goals. Sydney is very active person especially when it comes to her hobbies. One thing she enjoys is working at her job as a PCA, Personal Care Assistant. She loves taking care of people. She is overwhelmed with the smiles she gets as well as the positive feedback from the residents. All the positivity reminds her of her other hobbies, such as color guard and band. Now Sydney has been playing the clarinet in school since 6th grade and color guard since 8th grade. If that’s not dedication I don’t know what is. When she is waving the flags or playing a beautiful song and sees everyone’s over joyous smiles and cheers, she thinks of church. Church is a place for Sydney to enjoy her hobby the most. She loves being close with her fellow worshippers and doing work under the

She has no sisters or brothers, as I have several. She just has dear old mom and loving dad. Her mother has been married to Sydney’s father, Glen, for 26 glorious years. Sydney can talk to her loving mom about anything. As any right thinking mother would do, she always puts Sydney before her. When she needs some good advice she turns to her life teacher, dad. In between playing video games, such as Clash of Clans or King of Clans, on his iPad with his beautiful wife, Janene, or talking to his buddies from around the world, Glen always find time for his one and only daughter. Now Jax on the other hand, is Sydney’s big baby. He is a huge Doberman who is only one years old. He can usually be found on Sydney’s screen saver on her phone or cuddled up on her

I remember my sister crying the night before her flight, nervous of her transition to Cornell. However, during her first winter break back, my sister came back with a happy face. She spent the following weeks talking about her hallmates, lunch with her professors, and her highly intellectual peers. My brother soon followed suit. They both talked about the intimate relationships they were able to foster through opportunities to interact with the faculty, such as college-wide barbeques and eating dinner at professors’ homes.…

Hello, This week has sucked. I broke down crying at work last night because I can not keep taking time off or else they will fire me. I continuously take Saturday nights off because my boyfriend lives three hours away and I want to visit him and he does not want to sit in my dorm room for 8 hours while I work. Finally I called him and told him he was just going to have to deal with it or meet up with some friends that he has in Queens. That was clearly the hardest part of my week.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

As I walked through the front doors of Allentown Central Catholic High School, I felt a sudden rush of panic. Everything I had once seen and had once been familiar with in middle school quickly vanished into thin air. I was terrified, not because I thought I was going to get lost, but because I knew that every little quiz I took, every little paper I wrote, and every exam I labored over would now count toward my ultimate goal of getting into a prestigious university. I wasn’t scared of new faces, but rather new beginnings and experiences.…

I looked up and I was under a blanket of stars, thicker than that in my big city. Fernando, a student giving me his tour of the campus, paused to let us both stand together on the North Quad. "I was here," he revealed to me, "under the stars. That's when I realized this was the place." Growing up, my mother heard all the stories of mythical Oberlin College from my grandfather.…

A lot of work goes into putting together a marching band show. The band has to learn and memorize all of the music while paying attention to dynamics, time signatures, and tempos. On top of all of this music, a band has to learn over forty different formations to march to on the field. Before any of this can happen there must be practice. We learn how to march at the beginning and we learn how to play our instruments early on.…

For over 6,000 years, people have been criticizing others based on rumors heard or first hand experience. Many criticisms lead to persecution and ignorance from everyone involved in the situation. Similar to criticisms in modern society, judgments have lead to several persecutions and realizations in literature such as The Crucible and my personal life as well. People should judge others by their inner character, because when they do it brings out compassion; however, when people do not judge by inner character it brings outs qualities such as confusion and insecurity. Last February my friend Bethany showed compassion to her friend Peyton by bringing her to church and changing her life.…

Everyone we ever encounter has a passion for something in their life, whether they're are open about it or not. It can be crotchet, sports, reading, or, one of the most popular passions, music. We can't help but share it with whomever we come into contact with. Just being able to share your passion and having those you care about experience it with you is such an amazing thing to witness. Our walk as Christians should be just like sharing our passions, except in this case, the gospel is our passion.…
