Describe Sasa Dancing

Improved Essays
Expertise, or simply a hobby, what matters, in this case, is the passion we have for a specific interest. I decided to share with the class a recent interest I have for Salsa dancing. I enjoy the rhythm that allows me to embrace both upper and lower body movement, with that Latin flare. For that reason, the purpose for the assignment was to incorporate a how to basic dance step routine that could roughly define Salsa dancing. I am quite content that I communicated primarily through my hand gestures. I feel it complemented well my verbal messages of how I performed a dance step. I found that my slides were visually attractive and not overpowering. They drew attention and represented the theme "Salsa," with its' color layout. Lastly, I would consider the fact that I tried to compensate my nervousness with a smile and a bit of enthusiasm in my words in reference to dance. …show more content…
I was quite surprised to look at myself and notice the absence of eye contact I had in some instants. My posture at a given moment was inappropriate because I slouched my head to the side in a matter of seconds. A gesture of that kind could portray boredom. To be completely honest I could have done much better, but my nerves had struck in and I did not deliver all the facts I wanted to share. Lastly, I will include voice projection, which was not all there. There were fluctuations in my tone of voice. It was not consistent. Overall I feel that my main weakness is my lack of confidence. On the other hand, I feel I can definitely improve

I truly believe my strength is more in writing than anything else. But, I can definitely use improvement in researching, time management, study skills, and defining the topic (Capella, 2015). Mike Bunn Argument Essay

After reading Mike Bunn’s “How to Read Like a Writer,” I revisited my directed self-placement essay while asking myself the many questions Bunn recommends to ask oneself when “reading like a writer.” In doing so, I was able to recognize the strengths and weaknesses I possess as a writer, and therefore know where I need to grow the most as a writer. One of my greatest strengths as a writer is knowing my audience and composing my writing accordingly. I am aware that when my audience is a teacher who will be reading and grading plenty of the same essays to include original ideas and arguments; it gets boring reading the same type of paper and ideas over and over. Along with my well thought out ideas and arguments, I also credit myself with the ability of using appropriate evidence from credible sources that support my claims.…

Having in mind the target group for my project I tried to keep the objectives realistic to achieve. Upon completing interview one and two, I surmise that interviewing is not as easy as it appears. Whether it be asking questions to a stranger, friend, or a family member, there are still levels of discomfort because my role changes. I am no longer their friend who can talk in a causal manner, I have to contemplate and decide what questions to ask and how to prevent boundary violations. With friends and family, I often do not perceive this and conversations are more lenient. It was difficult to provide reflection without sounding hypercritical or appearing apathetic.…

The two weaknesses that I am fully aware of and take steps to work on every day are my communication with others, I tend to be shy at first, and asking for help. I have come a very long way in my life with how shy I am. When I was in kindergarten I would not even answer a question in class, when called on I would lean over to my only friend in the class and whisper the answer so she would answer for me. I have worked very hard to overcome this, I am nowhere near as shy, but I find myself reverting back slightly sometimes when in new situations. I am able to talk to strangers and patients that I just met like I have known them all my life, but when it comes to people I know I will be spending quite a bit of time with I tend to be quiet for a while until getting to know them very well.…

Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

Project 5 Reflection 1. What did I notice about how believable and relatable I was in this performance? I felt that the energy and enthusiasm I brought to the stories helped make my performance believable and relatable. I tried to include Broadway fan snippets in each story to help bring that relatability through the script and through the delivery. For example, the “not throwing away his shot” line about Lin Manual-Miranda, which is a snippet from a song from Hamilton.…

I feel that another one of my strengths related to communication is that I am not afraid to speak up in conversations and group discussions. One of the most incredible video that I watched to complete a Dance Observation assignment for Dance class is the video of: “Wade in the Water from “Revelations” by Alvin Ailey Company. This video was published on YouTube on November 25, 2007 and performed at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. This video is very beautiful and impressive at the first time I saw it. Then I keep watching it again to really focus on the detail of very movement and sections. The dancers presented a movement of an African American slavery era being empowered by drowned in the water but keep standing strong tightly.…
