Describe Philip's Playlist

Decent Essays
The first song I selected to be on Philip’s Playlist is Be Here Long by NeedtoBreathe. I chose this song because I believe that it represents how Philip feels about losing his dad, specifically with the lyric “I’m swimming in the grief and there’s no anchor that could hold me down” Philip is at the age where he’s old enough to understand what happened to his dad, but not old enough to properly cope with it, feeling that his dad left him here. This is shown by the lyric “I’m still here and I’m missing you”. This song describes missing someone and having to deal with it, which is the situation Philip is currently in at the very beginning of the book.

How the theme that is said in this prompt can be incorporated into the novel is when things get shaky when the administration starts wondering about what caused the suspension of Philip Malloy. In the novel this happened especially when Philip became “world famous” just because of singing the National Anthem. What this resulted was not only getting his justice but he was also getting so many telegrams and letters sent to him just for some patriotism notice that people have in the states. Everyone in the whole United States knew what was going on. Ms. Narwin and the board was getting beaten up by the whole world since the teacher Ms. Narwin didn’t let Philip sing the national anthem.…

Für Elise by Beethoven is the song that expresses who I am. When I started playing piano, I got frustrated that most of my family had a natural talent while I didn't. My father talked to me and gave me one of the most important lessons of my life: "Practice makes perfection, if you want something, insist until you get it". After playing piano as a hobby, at age 17 I decided to take my skills to the next level by taking piano lessons at college and I challenged myself to first learn how to play Für Elise. It wasn't easy, but practice made perfection.…

When we listen to music we often associate the style or theme to different aspects of life, for example, a nation, a movie or even a scene, John Philip Sousa’s music is no different. When his music is heard it is associated with America and the Armed Forces. Often times associations are made over time like, Thanksgiving and pie but, the association of Sousa’s music and America were nearly seamless. Oh Huckleberry Hound, the cartoon doggie, I loved him! Well, I neither knew very well to what the phrase 'Huckleberry friend' meant and for that reason Huckleberry Finn always came to my mind :) but reading to its own authors, 'Huckleberry friend' would be synonym of 'very very special good friend, that has been in your life for years, someone who stuck to you, and follows you to wherever you go', no matter where, and is with you in good times and bad. 'Stranger on the shore' is so beautiful, Ken, I love it. The other songs you mentioned are very good too, so these are the songs you would like to listen as if they were in the air, and they were activated, by a invisible hand, in every special moment of your life.…

The song I chose is “Surfin’ U.S.A.”, is characterized by the Beach Boys. I chose this song because of how laid back the tune sounds and makes me want to relax. It’s relaxing because the song reminds me of the beach and the sounds of the waves. In the song it talks about how they will be gone for the summer and to tell the teacher they have gone surfing. The summer always reminds me of the beach and all the surfers in the water.…

Even though Wes Anderson's film The Royal Tenenbaums contains both diegetic and non-diegetic music, non-diegetic music connects the characters to the scene because provides the viewers to feel emotions when dialogue is not present and a better understanding of each character. First, The Royal Tenenbaums non-diegetic music connects the characters to the scene. For example, the clip where Richie Tenenbaum (Luke Wilson) is attempting suicide the non-diegetic music in the background soundtrack is “Needle in the Hay” by Elliot Smith. This musical score’s tone sounds grim and defeated just as Richie may feel as he is trying to commit suicide. Which intensifies the dramatic event as Richie cuts his beard and as his experiences flashbacks to his captive pet hawk, Mordicai, his father Royal Tenenbaum (Gene Hackman), and of his adoptive sister, Margot Tenenbaum (Gwyneth Paltrow), who is the love of his life whom he feels that he can never be with her.…

We understand that the son misses his father, specifically his voice. He misses and admires him by remembering their time together. We get our first point of the speakers perspective when he says “in something he has just said/to his son: a song” (6-7). We are introduced to the song here, not a song in the traditional sense, but about the father’s song of life that he shares with his son. This speaker’s perspective is a son whose father taught him how to grow up and become mature, along with learning his way and the background of being Native American.…

When it comes down to the songs that will play in the movie of my life, these songs would be dramatic. Every song would have a different meaning, and more attention, destruct and love in it than the last. There are certain songs that are more committed to a certain time or event that has happened. Some are due to it being the song we sang when at the time, some being the lyrics that stuck years later yet most are because of the feeling when the song is first heard. Going as far back that I can remember, most of the songs that I would hear would be on the car rides to school or camp.…
